Everyone says they want to win on LinkedIn.

Almost nobody sticks around long enough for anyone to notice.

Not because they're lazy. Not because LinkedIn is stacked against them.

Week one, they're possessed. 
Posting every day. 
Obsessing over what time works best. Chasing some mythical algorithm secret that lives in a podcast from 2021.

Week two, reality hits. Work gets busy. Ideas disappear. Suddenly, LinkedIn feels like another job with no upside.

By week three, they're ghosts.

Here's the truth nobody wants to admit.

Discipline isn't the problem. Complexity is.

A brochure starts with:
What we do
How we do it
Why we’re different

A good post starts with:
A situation
A mistake
A sharp opinion
A story people recognize

That’s why brochure-based posts flop.

They feel like a pitch from the first line.

They’re full of words that sound nice but say nothing:
-> Seamless
-> End-to-end
-> Best-in-class
-> Game-changing

On a website, that’s fine.

On LinkedIn, those words trigger one reaction:
Scroll.

It gets worse when you run the brochure through an AI writing tool.

Because AI doesn’t create a point of view.
It amplifies the input.

So it takes generic copy and makes it:
- More polished
- More corporate
- More bland

Which makes the post even easier to ignore.

The fix is simple.

Don’t start from the brochure.

Start from raw material:
-> A real problem you see every week
-> A mistake customers keep making
-> A counterintuitive lesson
-> A moment from a call
-> A belief you’re willing to defend

Then turn that into one idea.

If the post could be copy-pasted onto your homepage, it’s not a LinkedIn post.

A few month ago, my wife told me she wanted to learn horse riding. 🐴

My first thought honestly? 
That sounds like a lot of effort for something she may not even continue.
I did not say that out loud. But I thought it. Loudly.
I stayed neutral. Cautious. 

The kind of silent skeptic who smiles and nods but has already formed an opinion without giving something a fair chance.

Then she crossed her Level 1 training. And she invited me to the barn to watch her ride. 🌟

I went. Mostly as a supportive husband doing what supportive husbands do.
What I did not expect was what happened inside me that day.
I sat in the stands and watched my wife ride a giant, magnificent animal with a confidence and grace that I had never seen before. 
And somewhere between the first trot and the last turn, I lost it. Completely. 

The emotions just took over. I was elated, I was proud, and I was a little bit in awe of the woman I married all over again. ❤️

That one afternoon changed something in me permanently.

I have never been a sports person. I still am not. #PerspectiveShift 
But I have walked away from that barn with three lessons that I now carry into my everyday life and work.

Never judge a book by its cover. 
It is the oldest lesson in the book and yet somehow we forget it every single day. What looks ordinary or unnecessary from the outside can be deeply transformative for the person living it.

Always give things time before forming an opinion. 
My skepticism was not based on knowledge or experience. It was based on nothing more than assumption. And assumption is a terrible place to make decisions from. #JudgeNothing 

There is truly no end to learning and exploring new things. My wife did not wait for the perfect moment or the right age or someone's approval. She just began. And that beginning became her joy. 🙌 #NeverStopLearning

To my extended LinkedIn family, I wanted to share this because sometimes the most profound lessons do not come from boardrooms or books. 
They come from the people closest to us, doing brave and beautiful things, while we sit quietly in the stands trying not to cry. 😊

You can't put it in your car. 
You can't cook your food with it. 
You can't fly a plane with it.

The energy industry doesn't just "move" oil. 
It performs a global, real-time chemical and logistical balancing act to transform a raw liquid into everyday life.

The entire system is an exercise in maximizing ROIC (Return on Invested Capital) across three distinct phases:

🛢️ 1. UPSTREAM (The Gamble: Exploration & Production)

- The Goal: Find it and get it out of the ground.
- The Reality: This is the ultimate Volume game. It is high-risk, capital-intensive, and relies on geology. You spend billions before you see a single drop.

🚢 2. MIDSTREAM (The Movers: Transport & Storage)

- The Goal: Move massive volumes without losing a drop.
- The Reality: This is the connective tissue, pipelines, supertankers, and strategic reserves. It’s all about continuous flow and optimizing logistics across oceans and continents.

🏭 3. DOWNSTREAM (The Chemists: Refining & Retail)

- The Goal: Crack the molecule and capture the margin.
- The Reality: This is where the magic happens. A refinery takes that generic crude and transforms it into a targeted Value Proposition. This is where energy is "humanized", turning into LPG for a family's kitchen, bitumen for highways, or petrol for commuters.

The upstream guys take the physical risk. 
The downstream guys fight for the customer margin. 
If the chain breaks anywhere in the middle, the global economy stops.

👉 The Challenge: In your business, are you just focused on acquiring the "raw material" (Volume), or are you obsessively focused on how you refine it into a specific solution for your end-user (Value)?

The Strait of Hormuz: A 33km Waterway That Could Shake the Global Economy

As a researcher of energy economics, the current crisis around the Strait of Hormuz is one of the most compelling real-world case studies I have encountered in recent years.

Here is why this matters beyond the headlines.

The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway between Iran and Oman. 
It is not particularly large.  But roughly 20% of all the oil consumed on Earth every single day passes through it. 
That one fact alone tells you everything about how fragile our global energy system really is.

What strikes me academically is the paradox at the heart of Iran's position.

Iran has repeatedly threatened to close the Strait. 
Yet nearly 95% of its own oil exports travel through the very same waterway.

If the Strait were truly disrupted, the consequences would be immediate and far-reaching. 

- Oil prices, currently around $63 per barrel, could climb well past $100. Countries across Asia, which receive 84% of the oil that flows through Hormuz , would face severe shortages. 
- Alternative pipelines exist, but they can only carry a fraction of what the Strait handles daily.

This crisis raises questions that I believe deserve more academic attention:

1) When does economic interdependence actually prevent conflict, and when does it stop mattering?
2) Are our global energy systems genuinely resilient, or just untested?
3) Does this moment accelerate the case for energy transition and diversification?

The Strait of Hormuz is more than a geopolitical flashpoint. It is a mirror held up to the assumptions we have built the global economy on.

🔥 63 Micro-distributors. One Spark. A Market Transformed. 
(This is a real life Marketing Strategy Case, which happened in early 2021).

Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs don't come from boardrooms, they come from dusty village roads and honest conversations.

I still remember standing at a crossroads.

On one side, urban customers, clicking and calling, expecting their delivery within 24 hours.

On the other hand, rural families, waiting days for a cylinder, living miles away from the nearest supply point, with little access to booking systems.

Same product. Same company. Two completely different worlds.

And I was responsible for holding a 60% market share, while competition had deeper roots in the rural belt.

The pressure was real.
The gap was real.
But so was the opportunity. 👀

We didn't have extra vehicles.
We didn't have a tech platform.

What we had was a simple, human idea.

What if the village itself became the supply point?

Women entrepreneurs. 
Self-help groups. 
Village service centres.

Authorized to store a small inventory.
Open every day.
Trusted by the community.

We called them Micro-distributors.

But an idea on paper is just that paper.

The distributors were skeptical.

"Who will account for the cylinders?"

And most importantly: We personally visited every single potential Micro-distributor site.

Just boots on the ground and trust built face to face.

Months of effort.
Countless conversations.
One village at a time.

Result? 63+ Micro-distributors commissioned across the district. ✅

And then something beautiful happened.

Other channel partners, the same ones who once doubted the idea, started asking: "How do we set up our own Micro-distributors?" 😊

The real lesson from this story?

Last-mile innovation isn't always about technology or capital.

A 7-Eleven store has almost zero storage space. 
So how do they never run out of stock?

If you look at a traditional retail store, 30% of the square footage is a dark backroom filled with boxes. 
That is dead space. 
It doesn't generate revenue.

7-Eleven realized that the store should be for selling, not for storing.

📦 The Old Way: The "Bulk" Model

Suppliers deliver directly to the store in large quantities.
The store holds weeks of inventory in a backroom.
Result: Wasted real estate, stale products, and cash tied up in boxes.

🌊 The 7-Eleven Way: The "Flow" Model (Cross-Docking)

- The Trick: Suppliers never deliver to the store. They deliver to a Combined Distribution Center (CDC).

- The Temperature Matrix: At the CDC, products are not sorted by brand. They are sorted by temperature (Frozen, Chilled, Ambient, Warm).

- The Fleet: A single "Chilled" truck takes the sandwiches, milk, and juices from 20 different suppliers and delivers them to the store at the exact same time.

- The Frequency: They deliver 3 to 4 times a day using small trucks.

- The Strategy: By moving the sorting process away from the store and into the CDC, 7-Eleven freed up their retail real estate. Every inch of a 7-Eleven is generating money.

They replaced physical inventory with high-frequency information and logistics.

The most expensive lesson of my career cost me ₹0.
But it took 3 years to fully understand it.

This is a real life story shared by one of my seniors -

"I had a colleague - quietly brilliant.
The kind who solved problems before most people even saw them coming.

He never raised his voice in meetings.
Never fought for credit.
Just… delivered. Consistently.
And I caught up in targets, timelines, and looking decisive, took his consistency for granted.

I assumed silent reliability needed no acknowledgment.
"He knows I value him. I don't need to say it."
That was the assumption that cost me everything.
One day he walked into my office.
Calm. Composed.
And told me he was moving on.
No drama. No ultimatum.

Just a quiet decision made by a person who had waited long enough to feel seen.
I asked what I could have done differently.

Especially the one that says , "they already know."
That colleague went on to build something remarkable elsewhere.
I went on to become a different kind of leader.

The lesson cost me ₹0.
The tuition one great person, and three years of reflection : was anything but cheap."

If you promise "Luxury" but ship in a beat-up box 3 days late, the promise is broken.

The Alignment Gap:

If Strategy chases Growth 📈, but Supply Chain is optimized for Cost Cutting 📉, the business breaks.

If Strategy chases Innovation 💡, but Operations is stuck in Rigidity 🧱, the product fails.

You cannot write a check with your Strategy that your Supply Chain cannot cash. Stop treating Ops as a "Support Function." It is the Engine Room.
