Having started my first business at 17 helping women in business navigate the male dominated world of cars I went on to form a teenage events company and I had my first successful exit pre-university which helped buy the beers!
At uni I studied the family trade of property and the day I left I founded PCPL which over the subsequent decade saw me project manage over £300mn of super prime London property with a brief foray into Brazil, Switzerland and Sweden for my clients too.
Having honed my management and leadership skills and learnt first hand from some incredible clients like the Barclay Brothers, Robert Agostinelli and Unibet founder Anders Strom there was one problem, I hadn't been able to scratch my creative and tech nerd itch.
I made a big decision to shift path and Co-Founded Walktrue with my work-wife Ben Collins. 7 years on that has grown into TrueGroup and we have secured multiple awards around the world and worked for some incredible clients across branding, design, websites, video, virtual and augmented reality. It continues to be an amazing journey pushing marketing and technology forward.
My next interest is platforms and products, while TrueGroup is growing Ben and I are investing in and development new platforms to expand the business and feed our interests.
Outside of work my first passion is vehicles, from a small classic car collection to restoring a vintage vespa by hand with plenty of F1 in the mix.

I was brought in as a consultant to create and execute a global PR roadmap plan designed to address the specific image issues facing this well-established and highly successful banking software company – including their need to be seen as an innovative rather than legacy – whilst generating increased tier 1 and trade coverage globally. My tasks included:

- Working with senior executives, country heads and internal experts to craft and gain approval for each element of the plan - which involved commissioning research, creating press panel events, writing feature pitches – resulting in coverage in Wall Street Journal, BBC online, Economist Special Report and more, and the idea of an innovation index.

- Working with colleagues and communications agencies around the world to create strong narratives via press releases, thought leadership features, blogs and social media content.

- Organising and attended panels within events, and coordinated media interviews resulting in good coverage.

- Partnering with leaders, providing consultancy and media training as required.

Senior Global PR Manager (consultant)

Pearson VUE

I was hired to take responsibility for developing, implementing and driving Pearson’s global PR strategy. I worked with internal subject matter experts along with an internal researcher, an events manager and a social media manager, to create impactful messaging linked to business objectives. My tasks included:

- Creating and executing a PR plan for each global region, drilling down to tactics including researching and writing press releases, brand-enhancing feature articles and broadcast interviews. 

- Creating an internal and external approvals process for press release content. 

- Planning and writing content for social media campaigns and blogs. 

- Scripting and conducting video interviews with colleagues and clients as part of our marketing effort.

- Hiring and managing PR agencies globally. 

- Personally pitching and securing thought-leadership features in major publications – including successfully negotiating with media buyers to secure advertising print and online campaigns.

- Writing research reports, based on our own global surveys, leading to events which generated new client leads and PR coverage in the form of published press releases and feature articles.

- Owned a major one-off marketing project as we launched a driving theory test service in France. This involved producing a detailed marketing plan, creating a service name and working with a designer on the logo, personally conducting market research on the new brand with colleagues in France, creating b2b and b2c advertisement content, writing press releases and feature articles, creating collateral and webpage content and planning a b2c viral social media campaign involving a youtube influencer. The result: huge coverage on a tiny budget, with repeated appearances in all our target publications along with the Le Figaro national newspaper, television and radio.

As a result of my success in this role, Pearson’s global senior management involved me in top-level communications decisions.

Global PR & Communications Manager

Daily Mirror

My time at this world-renowned daily newspaper included:

- Generating exclusive story ideas - which meant being creative and maintaining good relationships with PR firms, freelances, press agencies, readers and other journalists.

- Researching and writing in-depth analytical features, investigative stories, arts and technology reviews and humorous ‘picture stunt’ stories, requiring creative planning and management. Interviewing politicians, artists, economists, business executives and celebrities, as well as ordinary members of the public.

- For a story linked with The Apprentice television programme I came up with the idea of selling cosmetics on the QVC television channel live on air and unscripted for six minutes. I sold over £4,000 worth of the goods and they offered me a presenting job, which I gratefully declined.

- When Gordon Brown became Prime Minister in 2007 I arranged for myself and eight Mirror readers to visit him at 10 Downing Street and grill him on major issues. My ability to improvise in a crisis was tested when a teacher dropped out while I was in a taxi en route to 10 Downing Street – but I found a replacement before we arrived and the story was a success.

- Another of my features saw me secure three world records to celebrate the Guinness World Record’s 25th Anniversary. This feature involved months of planning, and you can find me on page 9 of the Guinness World Records 2008. 

- Hiring and organising a team of 10 staff for the Daily Mirror’s contribution to the March For The Alternative demonstration. This meant producing and distributing banners and leaflets, and personally writing an eight-page supplement handed out by my team along the route of the march.

- Working with ECPAT and The Body Shop to campaign against child sex trafficking, with a petition sent to the Government.

- Whilst working night shifts in my final 18 months at the Mirror I undertook successful PR assignments for Taylor Herring and HousePR.

Feature Writer

- Began my career with the Mirror doing daily shifts as a freelance. My employment was extended one week at a time based on my ability to produce incredible stories and feature ideas.

Sunday People

- As a freelance writer I wrote for the Daily Mirror’s sister newspaper, coordinating and planning investigative stories which often involved travelling all over Britain. I also researched and wrote many humorous features.

- Researched, placed and wrote features for various national newspapers including the Sunday Times, Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail and the Daily Mirror, men’s and women’s weekly magazines and Empire film magazine. I successfully pitched my own ideas as well as doing commissioned work.

- Gained more experience in generating stories and selling them to newspaper and magazine editors, including specialist publications such as New Scientist along with broadsheet national newspapers. This resulted in lasting professional relationships and friendships with staff at many national newspapers and magazines.

- Started off as a temporary secretary at this transatlantic investment banking head-hunting company but after two months they hired me as a researcher.

- Sought out and interviewed talented investment bankers in London and New York and put together presentations  for the clients – large investment banks. Then negotiated with both the banking clients and potential employees to get the correct talent placed in the right roles.

- In a separate role I was involved with competitive intelligence – finding out information about our clients’ competitors. This involved persuading executives to tell me what was going on at their banks, even cold calling where necessary, then producing detailed reports.

- Joining the chief executive presenting pitches to potential new clients to gain new business.

Researcher

After more than a decade as a Feature Writer at the Daily Mirror newspaper – with standout moments including interviewing the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street and achieving three Guinness World Records – I decided to make the move to PR. 

An accomplished and experienced senior public relations executive with excellent communication skills, I have worked strategically both in-house and as a consultant with startups, scaleups and large global corporations to develop and execute marketing and communications plans focused on achieving business growth objectives in a measurable way – translating complex topics into compelling, digestible and successful campaigns.

I have worked in multiple sectors including edtech, fintech, and charities, both b2b and b2c.
