As the Chief Executive Officer with AIM WA, my overarching responsibility lies in the development and execution of the AIM WA strategic plan, namely, that of maintaining its position as an educational trailblazer in the areas of leadership, management, and workplace excellence. Additionally, my focus is geared towards managing the internal and external operations of AIM WA, as well as consistently delivering high level advice to our wider Board around policy and planning.

I am a former academic turned social trends and workplace specialist, Board director, keynote speaker, newspaper columnist, and most importantly, Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Institute of Management in Western Australia (AIM WA).

My passion is inspiring better workplaces.  I like to ignite discussions around workplace themes and topics, and I use my column in Perth’s The Sunday Times – called “Workplace Matters” – to get conversations started right here on LinkedIn.

I also have an interest in what’s trending in our non-work lives too, so you’ll see that I post pieces on here about various social affairs topics.

As a MYOB Certified Consultant my roll was to help small and medium entities with all things MYOB. I specialised in budgeting, cash flow management and inventory management. 

My role broadened over time. 

While still concentrating on  budgeting, cash flow management and inventory management I ended up as a whole of Business Consultant helping Small Business Owners create 90-day action plans, systemise their businesses and delegate to their staff to move them out of the "me mentality" and "struggle cycle" and allow them to scale and grow.

I exited this business due to a Divorce (one of the 5 D's of Death, Disability, Divorce, Disagreement, Distress.

Pacific Marketing Agencies P/L

PMA was a Family owned and operated business specialising in very niche printing equipment and consumables to the Food Packaging, Printing, Plastics, Manufacturing and Promotional industries.

We were fortunate to have National brands such as The Smiths Snackfood Company, Pauls (Dairy Products), Arnott's Biscuits, Golden Circle, CSR, Bundaberg Sugar, Castlemaine XXXX, Fisher & Paykel, Myer, Orica, Tip Top Bakeries, Dulux, Caltex, Otto Sulo, as well as a pletera of small to medium sized entities as our valued customers.

It was a very successful business that at its peak turned over $3.5M and employed 10 staff.

I exited this business after more than 30 years to semi-retire and travel around Australia with a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 26' Jayco caravan. A life experience that can never be replaced.

Sign-A-Rama North Brisbane

I purchased Sign-A-Rama North Brisbane because I wanted to own something that I could genuinely call my own.

It was a medium sized Sign-a-Rama, manufacturing and installing a full range of signage from a humble name plate, window graphics, digital vehicle wraps through to Pylons.

Our most successful project was to rescue the project manager in charge of the construction of the DFO at Brisbane Airport. Within a three week turnaround we supplied and installed the head signage to two pylons, large digital graphics to various public areas and the store graphics to various outlets within the complex.

I exited this business because the business was not allowing me to move in the direction I wanted to go in and to fully concentrate on my role at PMA which I was also running at the same time.

I am a Small Business aficionado! 

I grew up in an entrepreneurial family. My Dad owned two businesses and that's what sparked my interest in entrepreneurship from a very early age and one day becoming like my Dad, a successful business owner. 

I started my first small business, a newspaper run, while I was still at school. It taught me to be accountable for my actions. 

On leaving school, I knew that I wanted to own and run my own business. I felt like I didn't have the experience or skills necessary to do that, so I decided to work for my Dad to learn more from him and literarily over the next 8 years I worked side by side with him and helped my Dad grow his business to a $3 mil turnover. 

I wanted a company that I could genuinely call my own, so I invested in a Sign-A-Rama franchise. I ran it in conjunction with the family business (my father had now retired) for some years before successfully exiting the franchise. Running both businesses taught me the value of delegation. You just can't do it all. 

There was also a Consulting business along the way so, after 35 years I needed a break and exited the family business sold the house and cars and set off around Australia. Looking back, I could see all the exits I had that were successful and those that I didn’t extract as much value as I should've. 

I realised that there were certain things I was doing in the businesses that I did well compared to those that I didn’t and that’s when I created Exitology®. 

I started the mission of helping other business owners be happier and exit more successfully. Exitology® is a 5-step growth and value enhancement process that marries growth and exit together to create Business Happiness ™. 

I use my passion, education, business and life experience, and Psychological Flexibility to help small business owners create a profitable, engaging, purposeful, automated, and saleable, business whilst they maintain a work/life harmony.
