I took myself on a date last night. 

To one of São Paulo’s most popular Brazilian steakhouses. 

With a 200-yr old Banyan tree in the middle.

Never a dull moment with single nomad life. 

Going out by myself is pretty normal for me now. Even in foreign countries where I don’t speak the language.

It always makes for an interesting time.

Last night, while everyone was with dates or groups, little ol Mandy is by herself waiting for 20 minutes for someone to take my order. 

I don’t think they understood me when I said I was by myself, it’s like they were waiting for my date to show up 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

I finally tracked someone down, ordered, and it was quite delicious. I’ll put some pics below. 

Being an entrepreneur for 16 years creates a type of fearlessness, which is why I can pretty much do anything by myself. 

And living this solo nomad life creates even more of that fearless attitude. 

Especially with the way the world is right now.

I want to have absolutely no regrets in life. 

And when my time here is up, I will know that I lived life to the fullest on my terms. 

Including enjoying that delicious steak in one of Brazil’s most popular steakhouses. 🤩

P.S. I gave my leftovers to a little girl outside of the steakhouse who was selling towels for “platos” and I bought one for 20 reais with dogs on it. Then she asked for my food and I couldn’t say no because she was so cute. I hope her mom let her enjoy it :)

Thanks to Henrique, who entertained me all weekend with Tati Rainer and fam, for telling me this morning that I got to 50K. 

In 2010, I started Mod Girl Marketing and right before that, I started my LinkedIn page. 

Then I got serious about LinkedIn 2015. Had my first LinkedIn course in 2017.

That's over a decade of building a brand and sharing my knowledge on LinkedIn.

Took me awhile to get here, but I've also been purging inactive connections on my own.

Social Selling That Actually Works | 16 Years in the Game | LinkedIn & Sales Navigator Trainer | Founder of Mod Girl Marketing & Luminetics | Island Nomad 🌴

I mostly travel the world alone, but I’m rarely alone 247…thanks to LinkedIn. 

This gem, Gabriel Tolentino, is one reason I decided to visit Brazil.

Last year, Gabriel found me on LinkedIn, grabbed my free resources, joined my email list, and scheduled a call with me . 

We instantly hit it off, and became friends.

And this week I got to spend time with him in his amazing city, eating the most delicious food at the most unique places.

P.S. It’s my last weekend in Brazil. 5 weeks of adventures. I will miss it and my amigos.

In 2022, I spent $30K on a sales program that didn’t work out.

At least, not in the way I expected. What I got from it ended up being worth way more…

A friend for life.

That’s how I met Tati Rainer.

And she’s one of the reasons I visited Brazil these last 5 weeks.

At the time, she was going through the program to become an appointment setter.

I joined from the agency side, trying to hire setters.

I hired her for a bit. Then realized I wasn’t quite ready.

So we did the mature thing, parted ways professionally, and stayed friends. Which, honestly, is rare.

Fast forward a bit.

She decides she wants to help professionals improve their LinkedIn presence and interview skills so they can actually land the jobs they deserve.

I step in as a mentor.
She joins The Next Wave.
Starts using our systems and AI tools.

Starts showing her clients how to actually show up like the badasses they are.

And now here we are in 2026.
She’s crushing it.

She and her husband Henrique have built a business helping people win interviews and optimize their LinkedIn presence.

From a program that “didn’t work” to this.

That’s the part people don’t talk about enough…

The ROI isn’t always what you expect.
Sometimes it’s better.

I spent the weekend with Tati, Henrique, and their family in Brazil.

Jet skis. Lake days. Endless delish food. Puppy cuddles. Tons of laughs.

And way too many stories from my chaotic Brazil adventures.

The internet is a crazy yet powerful place.

It’s given me a 16-year career, a business I love, and friendships all over the world. Real ones.

And every time I meet someone older on my travels who asks what I do, I get the same reaction…

“That wasn’t possible back when I was working.”

They’re right.

And I don’t take that for granted.

Here’s to more adventures with online friends who become real-life, forever friends.

Did you lose followers over the weekend? 

Looks like LinkedIn just cleaned house with one of its periodic account purges.

I lost 30 followers.
Lindsay Rios lost 40.

And it’s not unusual.
Every major social platform does this.

Why?

Because over time, networks fill up with:

→ Inactive accounts
→ Spam profiles
→ Bots
→ Fake accounts

Removing them actually improves the platform.

If you’ve been on LinkedIn for years like I have, there’s a high chance you’ve accumulated a lot of random followers who:

→ Haven’t logged in for years
→ Created fake accounts
→ Were part of spam networks

So LinkedIn clears them out.

And yes… your follower count might drop.

But here’s the important part:

This is actually a good thing.

Because the people left are more likely to be:

→ Real
→ Active
→ Engaged

Quality > vanity metrics.

So if you notice your follower count dip after a purge…

Don’t panic.

Your audience just got a little cleaner.



P.S. I was so close to 50,000 followers.

Now I guess I need to work a little harder this week to make that happen.

I’ve been building my brand in the digital marketing space for over 16 years.

When I started my company in 2010, there were far fewer women in this industry.

That’s actually why I named my company Mod Girl Marketing.  

I wanted there to be absolutely no question that a woman was running it.

And the “Mod” part stood for modern, because I was focused on modern marketing long before it became what it is today.

I’m incredibly grateful to be listed alongside so many amazing female leaders around the world.

We’ve made progress.

But my hope is that when my four-year-old niece grows up, she won’t have to spend 16 years proving she belongs in rooms that were never built for women in the first place.

What does that even mean?
Seriously.

If a prospect reads your profile and still has to guess what you do, you already lost.

People don’t want clever.
They want clear.

Your profile should answer two things instantly:

→ Who you help
→ How you help them

That’s it.

Most people stay vague because they’re thinking about how they sound.

Not how buyers think.
Buyers are scanning.

They’re asking themselves one question:

“Can this person help me?”

So compare these two:

“Empowering efficiency for SaaS companies.”

vs.

“Helping sales reps book 30% more meetings.”

One is vague.
One tells you the exact outcome.

Clarity beats clever every single time.

If your LinkedIn headline feels “fancy” but people still ask what you do, it’s time to rewrite it.

Or maybe it just says your job title. 

So here’s the test.

Could a stranger understand exactly what you do in 5 seconds?

Or are you still hiding behind buzzwords?

I’ve had posts hit millions of impressions.

And drive zero leads.

Not a single conversation.

Your sales team’s cold outreach is getting harder. Open rates are dropping. Replies are rare.

So what exactly is going on?

They’re doing all the things…

- Hundreds of cold emails a week

- Calls, InMails, sequences, personalization tools

- A carefully crafted outbound playbook

So you start asking yourself:

“𝘐𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨? 𝘋𝘰 𝘸𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯? 𝘈 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘵𝘰𝘰𝘭? 𝘈 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵?”

But here’s the hard truth:

There could be a problem with the message. The tech. Or the rep.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞:

1) Reps blast templated emails to long lists

2) They sprinkle in “personalization” like “Saw you brought in a new CRO ”- but it feels fake

3) Messages go out cold, with zero context or relationship

4) Buyers don’t recognize the sender - so they ignore it or mark it as spam

5) Even if they open it, they check LinkedIn...

→ And see someone with no credibility, no presence, and nothing valuable to say

𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐛𝐮𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 90% 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞.

But you know what they do check?

𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝𝐈𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐬. 

84 % of C-suite execs use social media in at least one stage of a purchase decision.

That’s why sales teams need an approach that adapts to new buyer behavior, but weaves into the current workflow.

There’s money sitting in your LinkedIn connections. And you’re doing nothing with them. Steal this LinkedIn DM and message them ⬇️ 

First, go engage with their content, if they are posting. 
Or engage with their comments. 

Then send them this:

“Hey [Name], random question.

We need to talk about the 27% of you who chose “doom scrolling.”

Last week I ran a poll asking what’s taking the biggest chunk of your LinkedIn time each week.

#1 was commenting and engaging.

Good.
That’s where your time should go.

But #2?

Doom scrolling.

If that's happening so that you can do #1, cool. 

If it's wasting your time (typically what "doom" means), not cool. 

So, let me help...

If you’re going to spend 45 minutes on LinkedIn, here’s a simple structure:

→ 15 minutes leaving thoughtful comments on ideal clients’ posts
→ 15 minutes sending messages and connecting with prospects
→ 15 minutes creating or refining one piece of content

That’s it.

If you have less time to spend, just trim down those time slots. 

No rabbit holes.
No unnecessary distractions. 
No endless doomscrolling. 

Engagement is powerful.

But only if it’s intentional.

So the real question is...

Are you using LinkedIn with a plan?

Or letting it use you?
