Over the past decade, I’ve worked at the intersection of HR, communications, and the business, helping organizations create shared understanding, reduce friction, and turn strategy into action. I’m often brought in when things feel fragmented: messages aren’t landing, teams are working in silos, or leaders want greater clarity and alignment.

I’m currently open to freelance and interim projects in internal communications, team alignment, and HR communications.

The Mississauga Food Bank

TMFB's HRCC was formed in 2021 with the purpose of creating focus on developing a meaningful and effective way of developing and monitoring CEO performance. The HRCC supports the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Board in this process through ensuring that the process is executed as intended, in a fair and transparent manner that promotes CEO growth and development. The HRCC provides guidance to the Board on organizational HR matters, at a governance level, such as whistleblowing and CEO succession planning. Joanne brings her hands-on experience in developing inclusive HR policies that promote employee learning and development to this committee and centers decisions made on TMFBs values.

As the Treasurer of The Mississauga Food Bank, Joanne provides oversight through ongoing review of the organization's financial policies and procedures, performs review of financial reports and advises management on financial and accounting matters, as required. She keeps the Board regularly informed of key financial events, accomplishments and concerns, liaises with the organization's auditors and supports the administration of payroll. Joanne also serves as a member of TMFB's Audit and Finance Committee.

Joanne provided executive leadership to the Finance and Administrative portfolio, including Human Resources, IT and contracts management, at Crossroads International. She facilitated organizational growth (doubling of revenue and FTE globally) through focusing on people, processes and systems. During her tenure, Joanne successfully lead a financial systems conversion, IT server conversion and roll out of a growth-oriented performance management process, as well as developed and implemented global finance and administrative policies and an internal compliance review framework. Joanne supported the financial capacity building of senior leadership and Board members through leading innovative and engaging training sessions. She was the lead of the global diversity and inclusion committee, which steered Crossroads' direction on DEI and anti-racism matters.

Joanne provided oversight to the treasury and financial reporting functions at Humber College, liaising with the financial services team and internal stakeholders to support new and existing business processes. She placed emphasis on continuous improvement, while maintaining the College's strategic goals and financial reporting requirements in mind. Joanne focused on streamlining business processes, while maintaining data integrity, in order to better meet the increasing demand for financial information to support business decision making.

Joanne provided oversight to the financial reporting function at Humber College, with a strong focus on external stakeholders. This goes beyond monthly and annual reporting and extends into other reporting tools, such as benchmarking and dashboard reporting, cash flow forecasting and pro forma. As part of the department's business strategic objectives, Joanne was actively involved in other initiatives throughout Financial Services & Planning, including integrated risk management. Joanne strives to be an intentional leader to inspire her team members.

As the Treasurer of a grassroots not-for-profit, Joanne is wholly responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the organization's financial records.  Her responsibilities vary from bookkeeping to budget planning to grant reporting.  As an executive member, she plays an active role in the decision making process and is looked upon as the financial expert within the organization.

Joanne volunteered as a consultant on behalf of AfID at This Life Cambodia during her travels in South East Asia.  She implemented a formal budget preparation policy, designed a financial reporting manual and provided recommendations to improve processes and controls throughout the organization.
