We were never meant to be one thing.

There is no label that can define us. No life path we must forever follow. No single version of success to which we must always subscribe. 

We are a work-in-progress. Constantly letting go of who we were yesterday so we can take one more step towards who we’re becoming today. 

I know this because I’ve lived it. 

I’ve tried almost every form of modern work. I’ve interned, freelanced, contracted, part-timed, been employed and built businesses of my own. All while representing my country in endurance sports, meeting people from all over the world and experimenting with every side hustle I could think of. 

For years I couldn’t give a one-word answer to the question “So, What Do You Do?”

Now I understand that I wasn’t meant to. I’m not here to simplify my complexity. I’m here to design something as unique as I am. And I know I’m not the only one. 

There’s a growing movement of us who are living beyond conventional labels. We’ve outgrown the boxes that can no longer contain our complexity. If that sounds familiar, you are in the right place.

On this page, I dissect the future of work and wellbeing, discuss tech transformation, community organising, youth policy, share my lived experiences and more. 

I combine my experiences youth working, unpaid caring and building social enterprises to create globally impactful technology and healthier people.

Right then - here's what I'm looking at today:

👉 Youth Futures Foundation and Institute for Employment Studies' great work to map national, devolved, regional and local-level support systems in England for young people.

👉 Dr Peter Smith's piece on Customised Employment, the role of the practitioner and his breakdown of listening as the essential skill to succeed.

Many people with disability and many employers speak different “languages” about work. 

How can listening - and acting on key insights at the right time - help practitioners help translate strengths, needs, and working styles into terms that make sense to businesses?

👉 Ofcom's Online Nation report shared that UK adults spend (non-work) 4 hours 30 minutes online daily; Young adults (18–24) lead with 6h 20m. Ninety per cent of UK online adults used WhatsApp in 2025.

What does this mean for how we engage with those furthest from traditional support? 

👉Cambridge Ahead's People and Place report - sharing the importance of housing in workforce policy with office attendance.

Housing affordability is now a workforce issue - shaping recruitment, retention and day-to-day productivity. (via Dr Nina M. Jörden)

👉 It was positive to see employment and training outcomes have airtime at Oral Questions in the Lords this week as we continue to Get and Keep Britain Working. 

It's essential we move *even* faster to drive growth and create decent employment outcomes, reduce economic inactivity, and increase participation in education and training across the UK.

I can't wait for an exciting 2026. From Davos to Glasgow and Brixton to Dubai, there's a lot going on!
