My ability to spot a good story is what landed me my first job in journalism. But it was my decade of profiling startups, small businesses, nonprofits and some of San Francisco’s most influential people that taught me how to tell one. 

A move into marketing and another decade dabbling in the creator economy—first with a food blog, then a motherhood magazine—taught me how to use those stories to build communities through content and collaborations.  

Now my mission is to help purpose-driven people and brands build loyal audiences who don't just want what you offer, but love what you stand for.

If the first week of January is any indicator of how the rest of this year is gonna go, then 2026 is shaping up to be a doozy.

On a globals stage, the leader of the free world just kidnapped another country's president for oil.

More locally, a perfect storm created by the moon’s proximity to the Earth, a rising tide and nonstop winter rains released a monsoon of unprecedented flooding in several cities in and around San Francisco, forcing evacuations of dozens of families—including my very own kids who were supposed to be at their dad's house through the weekend.

So instead of a quiet, focused first day back at work I'm playing the role of host and refugee shelter for my ex-husband, his 120-pound Swiss Bernese Mountain dog, and our two kids while grapling with how the world order is about to change.

While there's nothing quite like starting a fresh new year with exciting news and unexpected events, I'm focusing my attention on the light and opportunity in it all.

Bunking with my ex—which benefits my kids above all else—didn't seem possible to me when we were going through our breakup seven years ago.

Lots of things that are reshaping our relationships with each other and the world  as we know it didn't seem possible seven years ago. A lot has changed. 

And while change is scary and confusing, it's coming for us whether we're ready for it or not. Actually, it's here. We're in it. And I can already sense how it's changing people from what seems like a more grounded place.

Something big has shifted in all of us. I can't articulate it just yet, but I think many of us are tired of moving fast, playing the game and ready to rewrite the rules from a greater sense of self awareness. 

I still think it's going to be a doozy. But a good one.

If you write a newsletter, you know you’re doing it right when the same issue gets both the most replies you’ve ever received and the most unsubscribes. 

That’s what happened with the last issue of A Good Reputation. 

I spoke to my people and shed the rest.

...And I’m only just a little bitter about it.

I keep meeting smart, thoughtful, experienced people who want more visibility to grow their business, and yet everything in them resists hitting publish.

And it’s usually because they're:

-Out of practice with writing
-Afraid of being judged, misunderstood, or taken out of context
-Spent years doing great work quietly and behind the scenes for someone else
-Don’t want to sound like everyone else on the internet
-Unsure what they can share (especially with client confidentiality)

These solos, founders and job seekers know visibility matters, but they just don’t know how to make it feel safe or sustainable.

So they comment instead of posting, and draft all this content that never sees the light of day.

If this is you, I see you. You’re telling yourself you’ll get to it eventually.

In the meantime, I’m going to bully all of my friends into commenting on this post so that it gets some reach.

Want to be funnier and faster on your feet? Me too, my friend. Me too.

Not only does being funny make you more likable and relatable, it also helps release the pressure valve during unstable, chaotic times. (Yes, like the one we’re very much living in.)

So that’s why I decided to kick off my community speaker series with an Improv Masterclass taught by the one and only Amanda Austin. And boy, did she deliver.

In an hour(ish), Amanda gave us the upshot on what it takes to be funny. She led us through a handful of unpredictable, ridiculous games to get over ourselves and unlock a buttload of new ideas for turning our personal experiences into story drafts.

One thing I took away is that all humor comes down to surprise. We laugh because:

1. We can see ourselves in you or the thing, or
2. We can’t relate at all, and what you just told us is totally absurd or novel.

Either way, the element of surprise is the mechanism for the funnies. 

So, if you want to be funnier, start by trying these 3 things:

1. Become a better listener and observer so that you can notice that surprising thing that sticks out (known as the “bright, shiny object” in improv), and build on it.
2. Say “yes and” to all of your dumb ideas. Good, funny ideas start with a lot of imperfect volume. 
3. Let go of your ego and trust the process. Related to number 2, we are our biggest blockers to great ideas. Just start writing that draft without getting attached to where it’s going.

The most profound takeaway for me was that instead of trying to “be funny,” you simply need to be more observant and honest.

It’s the same thing that makes you a better storyteller. 

Funny how that works, ey?

Did the Bay Area just survive a real-life Sharknado?

Last weekend, a perfect storm created by the moon’s proximity to the Earth, a rising tide, and nonstop winter rains released a monsoon of unprecedented flooding in several cities in and around San Francisco, forcing evacuations of dozens of families that live on a lagoon.

As drone footage of the flooding circulated on the internet and group chats, so did this image of a spotted leopard shark swimming around the high school parking lot. 

Possible, I guess, since the lagoon backs into the bay.

Some people (myself included) immediately questioned whether the image was generated by AI, while others jumped in to defend the plausibility of a shark in the neighborhood.

While some obsessively dug to find the truth and set the record straight, others didn’t bother to fact-check or care—they just loved the story.

And that's how the story spread. 

Either because it made for fun dinner conversation or justified a feeling that the world is, in fact, coming to an end.

This is the moment we’re all navigating. It's a moment where we have to trust our instincts and intuition more than our eyes.

Ultimately, where we get our information, how we shape our belief system, and how we build our worldview come down to whom we choose to align with and trust.

So, as brands, business leaders, and creators, how do we get anyone to trust us?

One thing we should all be taking into 2026?


Surrounding ourselves with the right people 👏🏼

Whether that’s events, online communities, webinars - the list genuinely goes on. And the older I get (career-wise at least), the more I realise how much growth is shaped by who you’re learning alongside.

On that note, I went to the SocialDay ® event in December (thank you Magalí for the invite 🤎), and I left with a perspective that’s been sitting with me since.

Yes - AI isn’t “taking our jobs.” But it is changing how we work, think, and create.

Which means it’s never been more important to keep building our skillsets. Not just technically, but creatively and strategically too. Staying curious. Asking better questions. Learning from people who are actually doing the work.
And community plays a huge role in that.

Being in rooms (online or offline) where people openly share what they’re testing, what’s working, and what’s not accelerates learning in a way no course or thread ever could.

Small side note - and such a wholesome moment 🥹 I ended up on the cover of the little booklets on everyone’s chairs (at a Canva event!) because I was one of the early testers of Sauce - Social Day’s new community.

The Culture Debrief: Vol. 1🗞️

I didn’t really understand this until I moved in-house…👀


Marketing doesn’t have an attention problem. It has a conversion problem.

At agencies, it often feels like growth is a volume game: more outreach, more posts, more ads, more activity.

But being on the inside (especially of a startup) teaches you something very different. If people don’t understand who you’re for and why you’re different, no amount of activity will fix that.

You don’t have a traffic issue - you have a positioning and trust issue.

That’s why I want to put you guys on this piece from Planable on how agencies should be generating leads in 2026 - which makes so much sense! 

It’s not about “doing more marketing.” It’s about building clarity, proof, and systems that compound over time.

Two ideas that really align with what I’m seeing right now:

→ Lead gen isn’t inbound or outbound anymore - it’s both. You need long-term trust and short-term momentum. One without the other can leave you invisible, especially in the important places!

→ Content only works if it maps to the funnel (awareness → trust → decision). Awareness content gets you seen. Trust-building content gets you remembered. Decision-stage content (like case studies, demos, testimonials) gets you picked. Most teams post a lot - but they don’t post with intent & that’s where the gap lies

Most teams create a lot of content - but very little of it is designed to move someone forward. That’s where growth quietly leaks.

Now that I’m building GTM inside a startup, I see the same pattern everywhere:

Attention without positioning doesn’t convert. Visibility without trust doesn’t sell.

Marketing at an early-stage B2B startup isn’t just about writing blogs…


…It’s a LOT about building trust from scratch

Working as the Content & Community Lead at Jely, I’m kicking off a new series called get things moving (GTM) where I share what I’ve learned (and what I’ve broken 👀) along the way

Because early-stage marketing isn’t about scaling campaigns or refining buyer personas - it’s about figuring out what actually works before the budget dries up

3 things I’ve learned so far:

1. Your first customers come from conversations, not content.
Content builds trust - but the earliest wins usually come from DMs, warm intros, founder networks, and people talking to (& about) you

✨Try this: pick 5 people in your network who could benefit from your product - and actually call them. Yes, call. No template, no automated email. You’ll learn more than you’d ever expect, about your product, customer needs and where you can improve

2. If you can’t explain what you do in one sentence, you don’t have a content problem - you have a positioning problem and it’s KEY to nail down your positioning statement

✨Try this: write your positioning statement on a sticky note, stick it above your desk, and revise it every week until it makes sense to someone outside your company

3. Trust is your biggest growth lever: Podcasts, events, features, communities - anything that gets people talking about you plays a major difference

✨ Try this: pick one platform or format and commit to showing up consistently for 30 days. Don’t aim for virality - aim for relationships and gaining a deeper understanding of how you can be yourself whilst talking about what you’re building

We talk a lot about “what works” on social…


…but honestly, most of what we think we know about content performance is quite fuzzy.

So I went ahead and tested it.

I analysed videos from 5 consumer brands I genuinely follow and buy from - Isobel Perl Skin, Runna, SULT™, indē wild, and Puresport - and compared what actually worked vs what didn’t 👀

Using Aggero and its “drivers vs drainers” feature, one thing became clear: what separates a video that works from one that quietly flops isn’t always obvious. Subtle choices in pacing, environment, or timing make all the difference!

The more you focus on patterns instead of chasing trends, the clearer it becomes: success isn’t luck, it’s intentional decisions stacked over time. For startups and emerging brands, that clarity is the real edge.

High-performing content isn’t about copying formats - it’s about understanding which creative choices and metrics align with your brand’s vision, and having enough insight to act on them.

What (actually) drives content performance? 👀

The biggest continued shift in creator marketing?


It’ll be humans.

We saw it emerge in 2025 & it’s only going to rise in 2026.

When I think about creator marketing this year, I’m not instantly thinking about big budgets or massive influencer campaigns.

As a LinkedIn creator who also works at a startup, I’m thinking about how small teams can punch above their weight by turning employees into creators, who build their OWN personal brands 👏

Here’s what I’m noticing:

1. Community was the content currency in 2025 and while that’ll stay, lived experiences will be the currency for 2026. Creators who lean into their real stories, wins, fails will be the ones getting noticed. Authenticity isn’t a buzzword anymore, it IS becoming a measurable edge.

2. Your niche isn’t limited to just a topic or an industry - it’s your perspective. What you’re learning in real time, the mistakes you’ve made, the opinions you’ve changed, and the perspective you’ve earned by actually doing the work are what make your content hard to replicate.

3. Community-led, multi-search discovery is bound to pave the way. The fastest way to find creators won’t always be a search bar. Recommendations in Slack, WhatsApp, Discord, or DMs will become just as essential. Will word-of-mouth outpace paid discovery? We’ll check back in December ;) Until then, you can use Archive’s AI creator search feature to track creators, see what’s worked before, and combine word-of-mouth with data!

4. Vetting will no longer be a “nice to have”, it’ll be a hygiene factor. Smart brands will automate the hard stuff - historic content checks, alignment, risk management - so humans can focus on the creative + relational side. Tools like Archive will be so so imp here!

5. Cultural moments will be the next big thing & what we’ll be seeing more of in monthly roundups! Nano and micro budgets won’t mean small impact. Small, strategic campaigns can & will drive big cultural shifts, creating relevance in ways traditional campaigns never could.

TL;DR: 2026 isn’t about working with more creators - it’s about doing the right things with the right people, with intent, authenticity, and repeatable pipelines.

For early-stage marketers like me, that means leaning into employees, micro-communities, lived experience, and creative experimentation!
