Strap in for a long post, because I’M NO LONGER A BRUMMIE!

Moving from sunny Lichfield to Chester has meant it’s been a busy month of meeting new folk in and around Manchester and Liverpool (joyful), mulling over 50 shades of magnolia (tedious) and forgetting to lift with my knees (the pain is real). 

I’m now interested in meeting up with agency owners and businesses looking to focus on growth in 2026, and any recommendations from you bostin bunch would be hugely appreciated. I already have new partner news which I’ll be sharing in the following week. 

I’ve spent the past 20 years working with some of the UK’s biggest agencies, winning business in trade, consumer products, finance, energy, sport, retail, FMCG, F&D and countless other acronyms. 

What I’m currently seeing and hearing in the market is this: 

1: THE INTERNAL MARKET IS SHIFTING. For the past decade clients of a certain size have been moving marketing teams in-house. This seems to be flipping again with owners under pressure to reduce costs and overheads. As a result I’m seeing various brands looking to agencies again, which can only be good news for the creative industries. 

2: SUCCESSFUL AGENCIES SHARE THE SAME HABITS. First up, they’re investing in deep research around ICP to identify genuine pain points they can talk to prospects about, and in turn are moving away from being generalists to specialists. Next, they’re posing challenging questions across every level in a company hierarchy, not just those at the top of the food chain. What are the conversations you want to own? How are you going to build trust with your ICP? What metrics are important for growth? 

3: GROWTH IS SLOW AND CONFIDENCE MUST BE EARNED: Pretty much every sector is under pressure, with businesses increasingly cautious about big upfront fees and retained relationships. As a result, creating social proof, relevant stories and big ideas is more important than ever. 

I’d love to go into more detail about all these trends, and why I truly believe that creating an ownable tone of voice is an artform and that only the brave and brilliant are going to grow in 2026. - Talking. Think Radio, TV, Events, Podcasts, Lecturing, etc.
- Charity. No one has ever become poor from giving.
- Birmingham. I'm proud to consistently champion this city.

And those nice things were:

- Marketing. Web, digital, social media.
- Law. I genuinely still can't believe that I was an actual lawyer.
- Consultancy. Non-Exec. Board Member. Advisor.

And I've done a lot more bits and bobs.

My main focus currently is:

Radio and broadcasting with the BBC.
Hosting and public speaking through my own business.
And charity (which will always be voluntary).
