In my work across DeFi, cross-border payments, and emerging markets, one recurring theme keeps showing up: African businesses and individuals are ready to participate globally, but the financial infrastructure hasn’t always been designed with their realities in mind.

From high FX costs to slow settlement times, these friction points are not abstract, they directly impact growth, cash flow, and opportunity.

That’s why this conversation around stablecoins is important. Not as a trend, but as infrastructure that is already being used to move value more efficiently across borders.

I had the best time moderating a panel discussion on “Connecting to the Global Economy: How Stablecoins are Solving Real African Problems,” during the Africa Tech Summit, with incredible panelists representing different parts of the ecosystem like Ebenezer Ghanney of WeWire, Moyo Sodipo of Busha, Kirill Gertman of Conduit, and Apollo Sande of Luno.

We learned how them and MANSA are improving settlement efficiency, reducing FX friction, and supporting businesses operating across borders. But scaling this impact will require more than technology; it will require trust, thoughtful regulation, and collaboration across the ecosystem.

Africa has proven time and again that when infrastructure meets real needs, adoption follows. The opportunity now is to build stablecoin systems that are not only innovative, but practical, inclusive, and sustainable.
