Full Stack Software Engineer

Morgan Stanley

Morgan Stanley mobilizes capital to help governments, corporations, institutions and individuals around the world achieve their financial goals. For over 85 years, the firm’s reputation for using innovative thinking to solve complex problems has been well earned and rarely matched. A consistent industry leader throughout decades of dramatic change in modern finance, Morgan Stanley will continue to break new ground in advising, serving and providing new opportunities for its clients.

I was the sole developer on a team of primarily DevOps and SRE engineers. I was in charge of helping the team streamline their HashiCorp Vault deployments. These deployments were heavily automated by Ansible. During my time at Morgan Stanley I:

- Designed and created integration tooling to validate the existing HashiCorp Vault deployments. This was highly desired and necessary as the existing repository was difficult to reason about and had no standard practices employed when it came to managing and creating new configurations for the Kubernetes deployments.

- Led re-factoring of Ansible playbooks. This was a crucial step as they were all written by one engineer whose time with the team was coming to a close. There were many Ansible modules that required an engineer with a good eye for clean architecture and design in order to de-tangle, de-couple, and simplify the modules and the playbooks.

- Mentored colleagues on good coding practices for readability, maintainability, and simplicity. Took this a step further by establishing a Python blog on the company's intranet reaching over 70,000+ employees.

Python Security Developer

Butr Inc.

Butr Inc. is a subsidiary of AmpMe. AmpMe is a startup that launched an app by the same name, allowing it's users to stream music anywhere, play music and turn their iOS and Android phones into a giant speaker.

I was on-boarded as the sole developer for an in-house advertisement campaign tracking system that was suffering from technical performance issues as well as User Interface Design issues and User Experience issues. It was in desperate need of an overhaul. During my time at Butr Inc., I:

- Sped up load times on the main advertisement bookings history page by 8000%. This single-handedly saved the company thousands of dollars a week and earned praise from the CEO himself.

- Re-architected the back-end to a RESTful API using Django REST Framework. This greatly simplified the development process when transitioning the dashboard’s front-end from coupled server-rendered templates to a modular Single-Page Application.

- Re-designed, re-wrote, and migrated the front-end from Django templates to a components-based architecture using Vue.js and Vuetify. This improved visual responsiveness and User Experience.

- Migrated database from Docker volumes to Amazon Web Services. This added data redundancy, protected the company data from accidental deletion, and enabled safe and confident feature testing.

- Established a staging and a production environments in AWS.

Cerence Inc.

Cerence Inc. is a subsidiary of Nuance Communications, Inc. (it was formerly the automotive division). Cerence delivers solutions that understand, analyze and respond to human language, amplifying human intelligence. I was contracted as a software developer for the Ford Sync 4 team. During my time at Cerence, I:

- Collaborated closely and often with language scientists to gather requirements, design, and implement tooling that would facilitate the delivery of the product to the client.

- Architected, developed, and documented library built with Python and Pandas that greatly facilitated tool building for language grammar specifications, QA test reports, as well as map data compilation.

- Sped up the runtime of a point-of-interest compilation tool by over 1000%. This enabled the rest of the team to deploy faster and more often.

- Led the adoption of Git and Gitlab for new projects on the team by creating Python repository templates, ready and fit with Continuous Delivery (CD) pipelines in Gitlab that built, packaged, and Docker-ized the application source code. This was met with positive feedback from the team as it greatly simplified the migration process from Perforce.

- Mentored other team members to help promote quality coding standards.

Reacts - Innovative Imaging Technologies

Reacts is an integrated collaborative platform with a strong focus on health care and security. Reacts improves access to care, decreases costs, improves efficiency and satisfaction among both patients and Health Care professionals. Reacts has been deployed across various disciplines in both clinical and educational settings for uses such as secure messaging, remote wound care, ultrasound, consultations, and even interactive remote surgical assistance. During my time at IIT - Reacts, I: 

- Contributed to the enhancement of the customer dashboard, delivering a seamless user experience and streamlined workflow.

- Successfully modernized and improved the internal administrative dashboard by rewriting views from the legacy AngularJS framework to the latest Angular version, optimizing performance and user interface.

Fresche Solutions

Fresche Solutions has a marketed focus of modernizing their clients' IBM-i legacy systems. Whether this was a database migration to on-prem or cloud, building web services on top of the existing infrastructure, or any other development related to IBM-i based systems.

During my time at Fresche, I was contracted for two separate clients. One was for a large US-based food distribution client. Another client was a real-estate pre-fab company. During my time at Fresche Solutions, I:

- Transformed IBM-i DB2 server data assets into a visually appealing and customizable front-end using jQuery DataTables, improving data presentation and user interaction.

- Developed composable front-end component templates utilizing the powerful Backbone.js framework, ensuring modular and efficient code organization.

Encore Travel is a customer-focused, global corporate travel management and technology company that provides an entire ecosystem to businesses around the world. During my time at Encore, I:

- Successfully debugged, patched, and documented a legacy extranet web platform, ensuring smooth operations and resolving critical issues for seamless user experience.

- Developed a custom website that streamlined travel requests for clients, enhancing the overall booking process.

As a market leader in designing software and hardware solutions for the broadcast and media, live entertainment, and AV/IT markets, Matrox Video combines engineering excellence with deep industry expertise to consistently deliver unique solutions that help their customers achieve their goals.

My time at Matrox was part of the Concordia University Software Engineering Co-op program. As an intern, I:

- Spearheaded the development of an innovative digital resource management tool, revolutionizing the organization and accessibility of media assets by extracting EXIF metadata such as type, size, resolution, and more.

I'm currently a Full Stack Software Engineer with a deep interest in growing in two directions.
On the technical aspect, Cloud Security and DevOps. And on the business aspect, E-commerce.

My goals are to design, architect, implement, and deliver large, modular, scaleable software systems to millions of people.
