🧠 What IS Regulatory Intelligence, You Ask?

Last week at the RAPS Regulatory Intelligence Conference in Baltimore (March 3-4), I sat in on 10+ sessions, heard from a wide range of speakers, had more hallway, meal, and coffee-break conversations than I can count, and spent time interviewing many of the vendors in the room.

I also came away with a clear impression:

🔥 Regulatory intelligence has become a technology category in its own right.

Across the conference, one topic kept surfacing: regulatory teams are under growing pressure to monitor global regulations, guidance, and standards faster, more consistently, and with greater context. 

Vendors are responding by building platforms that go far beyond simple monitoring.

A few themes stood out:

✅ AI-enabled workflows are now part of nearly every conversation
✅ Agentic systems are gaining traction for task-specific regulatory work
✅ Vendors are moving further into impact assessment, prioritization, and workflow automation

I was able to speak with:

The MDR transition deadlines are approaching, and for many manufacturers, human factors documentation is becoming a key focus in legacy device remediation.

🔺 As technical files move through MDR conformity assessment, notified bodies are taking a closer look at how usability engineering has been documented, how use-related risks are linked to risk management, and whether older evidence meets current expectations.

On March 18, MedTech Leading Voice and ClariMed, Inc. will host a focused session on what manufacturers need to address now to prepare legacy devices for upcoming MDR milestones.
