Being so disconnected from my city as someone who works online is so real, at least I appreciate it with a 6-7km daily home to office walk after work at 11pm

but for real… this habit is really useful to reflect and revisit your thinking, something that helped me a lot recently since I started implementing it

How does a MOFU commercial work from a point of view of a tech company's prospect? (ATS edition 🤠)

probably the most popular and most important video type across all tech companies right now is the brand explainer/vsls (or what i like to call internally MMVs (Money Maker Videos)):

- puts the whole brand in 60 to 90 seconds
- builds trust and authority before a single sales call happens
- saves the prospect from having to research to understand you
- connects your brand directly to their pain (relating)

it's the second most important GTM piece after a brand's site for a smoother visitor to demo to customer process.

that's why it's almost always the starting point of every commercial collaboration we have with any client.

but how?

this little brand video shows a simplified version of how it plays out in real life. someone gets a task, they have a problem, they find you through paid or organic, they land on your page, and the video does the full qualification job in under 90 seconds.

but let's not get something wrong. this is a piece of a commercial system. the same way this asset supports conversion, the rest of the commercial funnel supports exposure and retention, and other videos for conversion, which are all needed alongside each other to actually build results for any tech brand.

A bit complex... I’ll break it down properly soon. For now, enjoy the video!

I love that we listed 'But AI can do this' as a prospect disqualification checkmark.

haha, I’m (mostly) kidding AI can do some fun stuff but I feel like Leroy gave a perfect example here. Yes, you can use AI to make 'something,' but does your brand deserve just 'something'?

I believe the influx of 'AI slop' we see in tech stems from low standards. Too many companies fail to realize that true brand standards involve knowing where to draw the DIY line. It takes courage to admit when AI 'can’t do that' and to say, 'We need professional help.'

If you ignore those boundaries, you end up with a commercial that hurts the brand more than it builds it. As I always say: Your brand is a reflection of how much you respect your own product.

This isn't a demand to go spend +$100k on a brand video; it’s about creating something you are actually dying to share. If you can achieve that internally, go for it!

We spent six figures on our brand hero video when AI could've done it for a fraction of that.

I get how that sounds. We're an AI company, we automate tax returns, and save firms thousands of dollars by replacing manual work with intelligent software. The irony isn't lost on me.

But here's the thing: knowing when NOT to use AI? That's actually the harder skill. So when it came to our hero video, we could have leaned on AI to slash the budget. But we didn't, because some things deserve the real thing.
