Utilized a “soft” power of innovative thinking (“heavy on influence, light on authority”) to define strategies and create an operational framework for using internal and external crowdsourcing to solve Mozilla’s product and technology development problems. Established processes to identify problems suitable for crowdsourcing and find an optimal crowd for each specific problem. Launched and managed eight internal and external crowdsourcing competitions in just one year. 
• Delivered ~$200K in expected savings by designing and launching a machine-learning competition on Topcoder aimed at generating an algorithm for automatic bug triaging for Mozilla’s web-based bug tracker. 
• Designed and launched the company’s first-ever series of internal crowdsourcing competitions spanning new product and technology development topics. 
• Engaged external crowdsourcing platforms to hold competitions on browser technology solutions to promote credible online content (MindSumo) and open-source voice technology (HeroX).

As Head of Exploratory Research, built and managed a multidisciplinary team of seven scientists charged with the development of novel protein drugs for the treatment of rare (orphan drug status) hereditary diseases.
 • Initiated two major projects (Morquio Syndrome type A and GM1 gangliosidosis) and advanced them to the pre-clinical stage. 
 • Assessed the applicability of a few promising emerging technologies for therapeutic interventions.
