Rohan Kamath was born somewhere and then he grew up (or so they say). Along the way, he attended a fancy university where he learned about important things like student loans and insurance. He then worked for a couple of famous people named Jeff and Satya. He has been birding since he was 6 years old, but his favorite bird is still a mean Tandoori Chicken.

When he’s not writing about himself in the third person, Rohan spends most of his time outdoors hiking and birding in the Pacific Northwest with his wife Pk and his puppy Albus. Rumor has it that he builds Products at Stripe although he not-so-secretly wishes he was a chef so that he could forever feed the fat kid inside him who refuses to grow up.

He is extremely passionate about learning new things and obsessively and consistently reads books daily. He also writes on Quora where his work has been read a few times, and on LinkedIn, where people think he's bonkers. He thinks he’s sarcastic and hilarious. However, most people find him obnoxious and annoying.

Where Are We With Lilypad? An open note.

It’s a Sunday afternoon. I’m sipping a gin and tonic (or two). Yes, it is pink. Gin and pink grapefruit tonic water, if you must know 😍.

Looking back at the last two years, and at how we somehow went from 0 to...
maybe 0.25 (1 will take time, and that’s okay).

Lilypad started in July 2023.
The first three months? 
We did nothing. Literally nothing.
We explored ideas, hired a few IIT/IIM type interns, decided to deploy solar-powered EV chargers … and then very quietly dropped the idea.

By late 2023, we began building our EV marketplace.
Thought we’d launch in January.
Launched in July with a version that sucked! 🙃

It took 6 months to get our first sale.
That one humbled us.

We built tech, rebuilt it, survived wrong partners, wrong hires, and wrong timing. And yet step by step we kept going.

In early 2025, Prateek joined us to start a fleet-operations business.
Actual traction started showing only recently, two years after incorporation. Let that sink in.

A reminder that some journeys don’t start with fireworks … they start with grit.

Today, we’re focused on 2w EV’s, because:
1️⃣ It’s the fastest-growing doorway into EV adoption
2️⃣ It’s where the real consumer scale is
3️⃣ It lets us build one cohesive, powerful platform

Our dream is simple:
A single platform where you can buy a 2W EV, choose BaaS, rent one, or manage an entire fleet.

Our marketplace + at-home demos are gaining momentum. We have 3x better conversions as compared to showroom/ dealer walk-ins.
Our fleet business is finally taking off. We are small, but have a demand pipline that is robust.
With the right capital partners, we see a big and sustainable scale path ahead.

Most importantly, we’re doing this responsibly ... not chasing flash growth, but building solid, steady value.

Exciting to see VIDA’s momentum: the brand has nearly doubled its share from ~6.8% to ~12% in Q2, thanks to pricing under ₹1 lakh and the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option.

Here are my key take-aways:

1️⃣ Affordability matters: Lowering the entry cost through the BaaS model has opened up EV adoption to a wider audience.
2️⃣ Legacy brands still have a role: Hero’s existing presence in 2w ICE gives VIDA momentum in the EV space.
3️⃣ Momentum is only one part of the story: While enquiries and footfall are rising fast, scaling networks and service ecosystems will be crucial for sustainable long-term success.
