Panalpina was a Swiss global logistics company with approximately 15’000 employees in 500 offices, world-renowned for intercontinental air and ocean freight services and the associated supply chain management. Panalpina was acquired by DSV A/S in 2019. 

Within Air Freight Europe, strived for strong EBIT conversion through best-in-class efficiency (incl. continuous improvement), know-how and organizational customer focus.

❯❯ Leadership, Recruitment, Organizational Design: From 2014, built up the Systems & Processes organization from scratch. By delivering measurable results early on, it soon became a strongly rooted domain within the Air Freight division. Successfully completed several recruitment, operations and organization design projects throughout Europe.
❯❯ Process Management: Established and enforced standards that drive quality, eliminate rework, and enable the standardization of operational processes. All projects combined saved some 60’000 annualized hours in operations, every year.
❯❯ Project Management & Change Leadership: Interfaced with IT in order to provide operations with the right tools and enable staff to work effectively and efficiently (incl. automation & integration). Co-led the implementation of a large program with global scope, with successful project closures in numerous European countries and including Change leadership at operational and senior management levels.

Ensured compliance with internal and external standards and policies, including Aviation Security and IATA Dangerous Goods. Risk management for shipments subject to restricted commodity policies and trade regulations.

❯❯ Commodity Risk Management: Pro-actively assessed and managed risk related to restricted commodity policies in close collaboration with the compliance and legal services departments. Enabled business in profitable niches and at 0 incident levels.
❯❯ Industry & Trade Compliance: Ensured compliance with internal and external standards and policies for 22 countries within the region Europe, including Aviation Security and IATA Dangerous Goods.
❯❯ Working in strictly regulated environments: Co-developed new global policies for the commodity group of “weapons, ammunition and military equipment”. In order to streamline the operational communication flows related to general commodity risk assessment, conceptualized a tool which resulted in significantly lower administration effort.

Air Freight Standards & Governance Manager Europe

Developed and executed the Global Air Freight Procurement program (PGAFS), an industry leading methodology. Advanced global Air Freight subcontractor management and provided market analytics & reporting.

❯❯ Procurement & Negotiation: Insourced an industry-leading bi-annual procurement program with total annual spending of several hundred million CHF, which was initially developed by Accenture. Stabilized and improved the process at -40% program duration, while consistently buying at the right service levels and below average market cost.
❯❯ Market Intelligence: Provided CFO-mandated senior management trainings in my focus regions North and South America (mainly US & Brazil).
❯❯ Forecasting & Analytics: Successfully developed a volume forecasting and steering process, yielding annual seven-digit incentive payouts from 40+ subcontractors.
