I’ve been watching people for years. The patterns are wild.

Here’s what I’ve noticed about people who actually have it:

I turned down $250K because of what Charlie Munger taught me.

The offer was simple: consult for a company selling overpriced courses to desperate entrepreneurs. Easy money. I needed it.

But I kept thinking about Munger's rule: "Don't sell anything you wouldn't buy yourself."

Would I buy their $5K course? No.

Would I recommend it to a friend? Hell no.

So why would I help them sell it?

The internal war was brutal. I had payroll coming up. My savings were thin. This one deal would solve everything.

But every time I tried to justify it, I felt sick.

I said no.

The next month was terrifying. I scrambled. I took smaller projects. I ate ramen more than I'd like to admit.

Then something shifted.

When you stop chasing money that feels wrong, you create space for opportunities that feel right.

Six months later, I landed a client whose product I genuinely believed in. The work energized me. The money came anyway.

Now I use Munger's rule as my filter for everything:

Would I buy this?
Would I use this?
Would I recommend this to someone I care about?

If the answer is no, I walk.

It's the most expensive filter I've ever used.

And the most profitable.

The dream is the proof.

Leadership is not about control.
It is about protection.

Early in my career, I believed management meant making decisions, setting targets, and ensuring results. I focused on strategy, performance, and outcomes.

But over time, I learned something far more important.

True leadership is revealed not in success — but in difficult moments.

When a team member makes a mistake.
When pressure comes from above.
When results are questioned.
When blame is being passed around.

That is when leadership truly shows.

If you don’t defend your people in those moments, you were never really leading them.

Defending your people does not mean avoiding accountability.
It means creating a culture where people feel safe, respected, and valued.

It means:

• Standing up for them when they are not in the room
• Giving them credit when they deliver
• Taking responsibility as a leader when things go wrong
• Supporting them instead of throwing them under the bus
• Listening before judging
• Protecting their dignity, even in failure

A leader who only speaks when things go well is not a leader.
A leader who disappears in tough times is not a leader.

Your team does not need a manager.
They need someone who has their back.

Because when people feel defended, they don’t work out of fear — they work out of trust, loyalty, and commitment.

And that is what builds high-performing teams.

If you are in management today, ask yourself:

Do my people feel safe with me?
Do they trust me?
Do they know I will stand up for them?

Because leadership is not about authority.
It is about responsibility.

And real leaders don’t just manage people.
They protect them.
