Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured (ARBI)

Responsible for developing and implementing an integrated fund development plan  and for all marketing and communications activities for ARBI. 

Achievements: 
•	Rebranded ARBI from a folksy, volunteer-driven organization, to a leader in community-based neuro-rehabilitation, championing a service delivery model based on science and compassion.

•	Reinvigorated the agency’s marketing and communications material through the development of multiple promotional videos, a redesigned website, annual reports, and other agency collateral, resulting in increased revenue, an augmented reputation and boosted employee spirit.

•	Created unique partnerships with media, including Shaw Communications; Shaw developed a 45-minute documentary (pro bono) that aired nation-wide on an emerging neuro-rehabilitation technique utilized by ARBI. 

•	Engaged Calgary philanthropists in our signature event where captivating storytelling (through videos and client testimonials) was centre stage, leading to increased revenue, enhanced reputation and greater visibility.

•	Strategized alongside ARBI’s management and board to construct the new five-year strategic plan, charting the course for growth and financial sustainability.

•	Engaged in partnerships with WinSport, the Hotchkiss Brain Institute and Dr. Norman Doidge to increase ARBI’s visibility.

Fund Development and Communications Director

Hull Child and Family Services

Responsible for the successful implementation of Hull’s inaugural major campaign, raising funds for capital and program needs. Following the campaign, was responsible for sustaining and securing major gifts to the agency.

Achievements:
•	Developed and stewarded multiple, complex, long-term relationships with individual donors, corporations and foundations, raising revenue exceeding $1 million annually from 2006 to 2008.

•	Outperformed as Campaign Director, exceeding the $6.5 million target of the Creating Success Together campaign by 12%. Responsible for all research, proposal writing, campaign collateral, stewardship reports, volunteer training and campaign celebrations. 

•	Highlights of the campaign included an $800,000 naming sponsorship of the HullTransAlta Community Connections facility and the grand opening of the Petro-Canada Cultural Hall.

Campaign Director, Major Gifts Officer

United Way of Calgary and Area

Spearheaded the major donors and leadership ($1,000+) divisions of United Way’s annual campaign. Revenue from these divisions made up 30% of the total campaign revenue. 

Achievements:
•	Strategized with committee chairs to increase the donor base, to improve the quality of donor  visits, and to create camaraderie among committee members. Exceeded the fundraising target by 20%; raising $4.6 million increasing the number of major donors from 132 to 173.

•	Collaborated with committee members and the communications team to revitalized marketing materials for the Leaders of the Way program. Leadership Giving increased from $4.6 million to $6.3 million.

•	Created marketing materials for gifts of securities and streamlined the process for accepting these gifts. Revenue from gifts of securities increased from $1 million in 1999 to over $2 million in 2000.

Inspiring donors – to commit, renew, or find friends to join their cause – is my niche and my passion. 
An insightful leader, my trustworthy intuition about engaging people in causes gives donors a direct line of sight to their investments. A creative risk-taker, I put ideas into action through a variety of mediums. My cache of strategic communications skills includes compelling storytelling, video production, annual reports, newsletters, speaking notes, grant/proposal writing, branding, impactful reporting, campaign collateral, engaging stewardship and creative web content. Some of my most significant accomplishments include:

•	Substantially raising the profile of the Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured (ARBI) through captivating story-telling, engaging Calgary philanthropists and developing partnerships with leaders in the field of neuroplasticity

•	Refreshing ARBI’s brand through the development of multiple promotional videos, a redesigned website, thought-provoking annual reports and other agency collateral, positioning ARBI as a leader in community-based rehabilitation

•	Outperforming as Campaign Director for Hull Child and Family Services’ Creating Success Together campaign, exceeding the target of $6.5 million by 12%. 

With a reputation for future-focused planning, excellent project management skills, proactive problem solving and an ability to envision the big picture, I contribute to the success of any team. 
I manage stress using humour, mindfulness and life balance. As Andrew J. Bernstein says,

“We need to distinguish between stress and stimulation. Having deadlines, setting goals, and pushing yourself to perform at capacity are stimulating. Stress is when you're anxious, upset, or frustrated, which dramatically reduce your ability to perform.” 

My sense of fun and playfulness are legendary.
