Wallace & Gromit and Barbour. Two of my most favourite things, together. 

Every year, I eagerly anticipate the Aardman and Barbour Christmas collaboration, with the past two years whipping up some glorious Shaun the Sheep adverts and branding. 

But Wallace & Gromit are, quite literally, national treasures, and I have so many fond childhood memories of them and their adventures, so this ad feels even more special. 

Following the fantastic "Vengeance Most Fowl" last Christmas, it seems fitting that we get a bit of 62 West Wallaby Street action in 2025.

The short took more than six months to create, with Aardman animators producing an average of two seconds of footage each day. 

The end result? A wonderfully warm and witty 90 seconds.

Aardman's perseverance and commitment to their craft have always been something I greatly admire as a creative. And, as a brand specialist and customer, Barbour's drive to represent British heritage through quality materials and timeless pieces is why much of my wardrobe looks the way it does.

This has been me for the entire month of November. I actually cannot wait for Black Friday emails to stop, and for Mariah to start invading the airwaves.

I am in desperate need of a new phone. A full battery charge lasts maybeeee 3 hours, it loads slower than Flash from Zootopia, and I'm often deleting files to free up storage space. 

But despite it being frustrating, I'm pretty reluctant to change it. 

It costs me £10.50 a month, which considering we live in a world where it's ordinary for phone contracts to cost £60 per month (plus annual increases) for two years, is very cheap. 

If you think about it, a £60 per month phone plan would cost you £720 a year. Sure, you have a nice phone, but that's not an insignificant amount of money. 

Add that £60 per month phone contract to the UK's average monthly car payment of £280, the UK's average monthly subscription fees of £62, and the UK's average monthly spend on takeaway coffee of £56, and suddenly you see that it isn't just boring stuff like mortgages and taxes that are draining our money. 

Many people spend an average of £3,360 p/y to sit in daily traffic. 
Many people spend an average of £744 p/y to find nothing to watch. 
Many people spend an average of £672 p/y to take a break from work.

We all focus all our attention and aggression towards the costs we resent paying, but the simple reality is we can all be guilty of lifestyle inflation, too. 

Lifestyle inflation isn't always luxury handbags and all-inclusive holidays. It can be quiet, creeping costs that fly under the radar, and eat away at our income.

Looking through this lens, my need for a new phone shifts from "desperate" to "it would be ideal".

Your insurance provider has just sent you a renewal quote, and it's more expensive to stay with them than to switch to a different provider.

It's annoying, isn't it? And it happens all the time. Home insurance, life insurance, pet insurance, mobile phone plan, Sky TV subscription - whatever.

It always seems cheaper, or more attractive, to be considered a new customer than an existing one. And for existing customers, this bias sends steam out their ears, and ultimately, them out the door.

But here's the kicker: I bet your business is doing the exact same thing. You just haven't realised it.

New customer bias is everywhere. Sales and marketing are always hungry for new leads and new business. Hell, you've probably got KPIs for acquiring new customers.

Now, sure, your incentive to drive new customers might not be as divisive as insurance brokers, but the point still stands. Most companies certainly put more energy into new customer acquisition drives than into customer retention plans, which means existing customers are commonly underserved.

And when this happens, the first thing that gets its reputation kicked is your brand.

"I'm not going with them again because XYZ."
"Don't use [brand] - their service was terrible."
"I was with [brand], but it was easier to go elsewhere."

Customer retention is arguably your brand's most important asset.

Keeping existing customers engaged and motivated to stay with you and recommend you to others, will build significantly more equity in your brand than any shiny new opportunity can.

So, next time you get an insurance renewal quote through the door, think, "I wonder if how this letter's made me feel is how my current customers feel, too."

If there's one thing I hope B2B brands finally realise in 2026, it's this... 

Rationale is rarely a sufficient motivator to prompt a person to act. 


The biggest difference between B2C and B2B branding (besides budget and creativity...) is the understanding that humans aren't rational creatures. 

Nine times out of ten, purchasing decisions are not made on logic alone. They are a combination of emotion and impulse, which is then justified by our own internal "logic". 

And that internal logic is often driven by emotion and impulse, too...

"Well, my oven is old and slow, and I don't want to clean it, and this Air Fryer has 25% off for Black Friday, sooooo that's a good enough justification to buy it". 


If you just presume that a customer is going to be interested in your product or service because it's simply logical that they would be, then you're going to have a hard time.

You need to understand that customers are people, and people are not only quite different from one another, but also tend to act more irrationally than rationally.
