When I was 10, I vividly remember sitting in my father’s car, watching the world pass by. 

People in their homes, vendors selling things, strangers sharing glances at the stoplight. And one thought always crossed my mind: What’s their story? 

What do they think about when they sit on their balconies or talk to their friends? Are they worried about the same things I am? Do they have a bully like I did?

Even then, I had a deep love for understanding people. I wanted to know what made them tick, what shaped their thoughts, their dreams, their fears. 

And that’s when I started writing—scribbling down stories, capturing the lives I imagined in every face I saw.

By 16, I wrote my first love poem. And at the same time, I chose to study Psychology, driven by that same fascination with human behavior.

And now, I’ve come full circle, realizing that my heart lies in helping those who have spent their lives helping others—psychologists and psychiatrists.

Who picks up a completely new field after years of studying something else?

Someone who is tired of feeling stuck despite doing everything “right.”

I have a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering and a Master’s in Environmental Engineering—degrees I earned with the hope of stepping into a meaningful career. But after leaving a hectic job, the job market had other plans. Months turned into years, and every rejection chipped away at the confidence those degrees once gave me.

Yet, life has a way of redirecting you towards what actually fits.

During my master’s, I first came across GIS—just a tool at the time, nothing more. But the more I explored it later, the more I realised it wasn’t just a tool. It was a whole ecosystem of problem-solving: mapping environmental challenges, analysing satellite data, modelling water quality, understanding land use, and making decisions grounded in real spatial intelligence.

Suddenly, things started to click.

The blend of my engineering background and environmental knowledge found its missing piece—geospatial skills.

So I went back to the basics.
Free courses, long YouTube tutorials, late-night practice sessions, repeating the same workflow until it felt natural. Spatial data, projections, raster analysis, remote sensing—all of it became a part of my routine.

And the more I learned, the more I realised GIS wasn’t just a career option.
It was the path I had been trying to find all along.

It merged everything I cared about: environment, technology, research, problem-solving and gave me the kind of direction I hadn’t felt in years.

Today, I’m building my GIS skill set step by step—QGIS, remote sensing fundamentals, satellite-based water quality analysis, spatial modelling, and preparing myself for a future I can finally see clearly.

A future where I don’t just look for a job…
But build a career that aligns with who I actually am.

The journey hasn’t been linear.
Or easy.
Or predictable.

But it has been purposeful.

And I’m just getting started.
