We live in a sea of tools and noise. I know this well, because I spent years navigating the digital rabbit hole myself.

During COVID, I was forced to confront some uncomfortable realities. My business had become heavy. Payroll was high. Time was being traded for diminishing returns. I was working long hours and seeing very little freedom from it. Something had to change.

That moment pushed me deep into digital transformation.

I began redesigning how work was done. Systems instead of strain. Automation instead of repetition. Technology that reduced effort and multiplied results. Over time, one principle became clear to me: when technology is applied with intent, it creates leverage. When it isn’t, it creates exhaustion.

I focused on using AI, automation, and cybersecurity-aware systems to build income streams that didn’t rely on constant presence. The outcome was not just efficiency, but breathing room.

Today, I design and teach the systems I use myself. I can create and launch a complete course in hours. I can build a functional website in under two hours. Speed comes from clarity and structure, not pressure.

I’ve published more than 10 books and sold over 10,000 copies worldwide, and I’ve trained thousands of people across technology and digital transformation. These results didn’t come from chasing tools. They came from applying the right ones, in the right way.

I grew up in Nairobi with a complicated relationship with matatus. (Kenya’s minibus taxi ) 

Back then, I did not see art or culture. 

I definitely did not see a tourist experience. 

I saw noise, rush, loud music, and that constant feeling of the city pushing you to move faster than your nervous system could handle. 😅

In my twenties, my dream was simple and personal. 

Make my first real money and buy my own car so I would never have to step into a matatu again. 

Not to flex. 

I just wanted peace, control, and quiet.

So watching this video today warmed my spirit. 

A Kenyan taking a German minister on a matatu tour, proudly, like it belongs on the world stage. 

And suddenly I saw what I could not see back then.

Matatus have become a movement. 

A rolling gallery. 

A soundtrack. 

A style statement. 

A story. 🇰🇪

They carry identity and creativity, and they have somehow turned into something people actually want to experience.

And this is where my digital transformation mind goes. 

Transformation is not only apps and tech jargon. 

Sometimes it is what happens when everyday life evolves into something people can feel, remember, and travel for.

Now the real opportunity is the next layer. 

Keeping the culture, but adding better systems so people are safer and the value can grow. 

Better payments. 
Better standards. 
Better accountability.

This clip made me smile because it reminded me that what we try to escape when we are younger can become something we learn to honour later.

I grew up on a coffee farm.

Every Saturday, we all went out to pick coffee. 

It was labor-intensive, repetitive, and exhausting and I hated it.

My escape was books.

While others picked coffee, I read. 

That wasn’t rebellion, it was instinct. 

My dad worked in corporate Nairobi, and even at a young age, I admired his life the structure, the discipline, the dignity of thinking work. 

Being spotted with a book earned me a reason not to pick coffee. 

Learning became my way out.

That’s when I understood something most people learn much later:

there is honest work, and there is leveraged work.

Coffee picking is necessary, but it doesn’t compound. 

You work, you get tired, and the cycle repeats. 

Books, systems, and learning do the opposite they multiply effort over time.

One of the strongest lessons from my father was this:

hard work without redesign is a trap.

Today, AI is the modern version of that lesson.

Repetitive emails, manual planning, endless follow-ups, tracking tasks in your head this is digital-age coffee picking. 

If judgment isn’t required, it shouldn’t be consuming your energy.

Digital transformation isn’t about replacing people.

It’s about freeing humans from work that never required human intelligence in the first place.

I miscalculated AI and for a moment it cost me focus.

I went deep very fast.
Learning. Testing. Creating. Launching.

AI made everything feel possible.
And honestly, it was intoxicating.

But at some point, I had to be brutally honest with myself.

I was learning more than I was implementing.

Creating more than I was converting.
Launching faster than I was sustaining.

And I am seeing this everywhere.

We do not need to chase every update.

That shift changed everything for me.

I’ve noticed something uncomfortable when intelligent professionals talk about AI.

They sound informed. 
They mention the tools.

2025 was the year I returned to the physical classroom to work again with kids, not as a teacher but a design thinking facilitator (DTF). 

It was a response to a need, a gap and a call to raise young innovators, creators and problem solvers. Everytime I read the news, reports and events, I keep seeing how complex the society today's learners will inherit is, and also how slow K-12 is currently responding to this. We can't wait!!!

My training and upbringing as a global design thinker is not to see a problem within my reach and do nothing about it.

We already had the "Design Thinking Academy For Schools" where we trained school leaders and educators but we discovered that it was also important to extend this to the learners.

If you understand where the world is today, you will agree that education can no longer be passive, an experience that raises people that wait for change. Nooo!!!! Africa needs active citizens, people that are not waiting but taking the stage and creating a preferable future.

We launched out with the prototype and laid out a structured program. We were also listening to the learners as we moved which led to some changes in our plan. 

"Every term has a theme"
The theme was around how AI is meeting human needs in today's world, exploring the world of products and services that already exists and building a prototype for something different. The big issue here is that a generation can go through 9-3-4 and still not understand anything about the topic above. 

Why ???

The Journey began with Empathy in action - Listening! 
The learners were shared into group for community-based interviews to track and validate certain needs. Design Thinking says the community is the classroom!  

We took the learners through the 5 phases of design thinking and now they have their prototypes. The outcome of the program (termly) is always a product, service, discovery or a solution.

Well, I am excited about this journey and this initiative. 

In 2026, we want to open this to only 10 schools.

The first 25 years of the internet age quietly closed, and with it came a clear signal: we have entered the Intelligent Age — where intelligence is now shared between humans and machines.
(To understand this better, read the Nov 2025 report by McKinsey on Agent,  Robots & Us). 

It's a new standard and it's non negotiable! 

👌Industries are already responding.

🚨 In 2024, Tyler Perry indefinitely paused an $800M studio expansion after seeing what generative AI could do (Sora) 

🚨 Apple shut down its decade-long electric car project and reassigned thousands of staff to AI.

🚨 By 2026, over $500B is projected to be invested in AI globally.

This is not hype, this is reallocation, this is a huge shift! 

Here’s the uncomfortable question for education:

If AI is taking over "routine cognitive work" everywhere else, what exactly are schools still preparing children for?

I hope you know that school is all about "routine cognitive work" - Monday To Friday! 

GenAI didn’t kill schools, it exposed their limits.

📌 A good grade no longer equals intelligence.
📌 Speed is no longer mastery.
📌 Expertise is now a commodity ( We no longer need subject teachers 😎).

The real value now lies in what machines don’t have.🤔🤔🤔

As I type these things, I am really worried about the alpha generation. 

This is the moment school leaders must act, not to add AI to old workflows, but to redesign education itself. Adding AI to old workflows is compounding the problem.

Just as industries are building intelligent systems,
schools must now build Intelligent Schools for the Intelligent Age.

A few questions to ponder on as schools review their value proposition for this new era : 
1. AI-Literacy: Do learners know when and how to work with AI? 
2. Context Mastery :  Do learners understand the society, economy, and culture they are preparing to serve?
3. Agency : Can learners design their own learning pathways?
4. Creative thinking: Are learners creating things that did not exist before?
5. Conceptual understanding: Can learners explain why something works, not just what the answer is?

History rewards those who catch the signal early.
