Are Prediction Markets the NFTs and Metaverse of this cycle?  🧨💀


With $64B traded in 2025 and $27B in Jan 2026 alone (on pace for $325B+), they've already surpassed NFTs' 2021 peak of ~$25B. 

But unlike hype-driven trends, prediction markets offer real utility through crowd-sourced forecasting.

Explosive fundraising underscores the momentum: 
Kalshi at $1B+, Novig at $75M, Opinion Labs at $20M, Noise at $7.1M, Kairos at $2.5M, PRED at $2.5M, and Fireplace at $1.5M.

Volume comparison: NFTs totaled $25B in 2021. 
Prediction markets? Kalshi did $24B in 2025 (mostly sports), Polymarket $33B, with combined weekly volumes now over $6B. This is genuine trading on real-world events.

Key differences: Generic markets (politics, crypto, culture like Oscars) harness collective wisdom. 

Sports-focused ones mimic betting but enable peer-to-peer trading without a house edge—prices reflect true probabilities.

Potential winners in 2026: 
Kalshi leads the regulated space, Polymarket dominates crypto. Keep an eye on Novig and Pred (sports), Kairos (events and timing), Opinion Labs (growth), and Fireplace (on-chain aggregation). 

Liquidity will crown the kings.

Unlike NFTs' art speculation, prediction markets improve forecasts (e.g., outperforming polls in elections). 

Risks include low liquidity and manipulation, but the potential is massive.
