After 7 years in B2C marcomms working for giants like Diageo and leading comms for the Federal Government of Nigeria's Ease of Doing Business project, I made the leap to B2B content marketing.

I then joined UserGems in 2021 as the first content marketing hire and helped build our content marketing growth engine as we grew from seed to Series A. 

As UserGems's Content Strategy Lead, I built, midwifed, and scaled our world-class content engine while leading the exceptional Content team responsible for brand building and revenue growth.

I currently lead the editorial and content strategy for The CMO, a digital career media publication that curates insights and methodologies to help B2B SaaS CMOs and senior marketing managers on their jobs.

Over the last year or so, the dominant language used to frame immigration by its most fervent critics has been something around it being a volume problem. 

And the word you’ll hear used most times is “broken” in its different forms;

The system is broken 

We have too many people 

The doors were thrown wide open

Services are flooded

Communities are overwhelmed

I think this frames immigration as a malignant force acting on Canada, something that happens to the country rather than something the country does. And once you accept that framing, the only logical responses are restriction, reduction, and control.

There’s also the language that reduces immigrants to a single dimension. We are either economic inputs (contributors, workers, taxpayers) or economic burdens (service users, competitors for housing, drains on the system). 

But both ends of this framing strip out everything that make us human.
