Having worked in media for 15+ years and qualifying as a stylist and coach, I am incredibly passionate about helping women go after the opportunities they deserve.

Where are all the girlies grabbing a coffee, enjoying the sunshine, picking up a bunch of flowers and some sourdough, and then finding themselves overcome by an existential crisis because what if WW3 is imminent and selfish old men are dropping bombs as a distraction from their evil deeds, and AI is taking over human interaction and my town is becoming the first in the UK with a fully-AI coffee shop so I can’t even chat to a barista anymore on my silly little girl walks, and there’s about to be a terrible clean water shortage and patriarchy makes me feel like I’m drowning in products but also those products are necessary, and do I even LIKE Bridgerton or is it also a distraction to the horror and atrocity in the world, and why is the interest on my mortgage so high but my taxes are being spent funding atrocity not education or healthcare and most of my friends shrug like war is ’over there’ so it doesn’t impact us personally, stop caring so much and every day life feels so futile and redundant and silly and yet incredibly necessary. Where are those girlies xx

I have never had a crush on an MP before 🤣

Of course they must be held to account. 

We have to judge on actions, not words. 

But Hannah Spencer represents something. 

She represents hope. That people are good and kind and they don’t all want to vote for r*cism and misogyny.

Unfortunately that means that she’ll get dragged by the media, picked apart on socials and have her life dissected in a way we don’t really *do* to male politicians (like… did we ever find out how many children Boris Johnson had in the end?) 

But I’m glad she beat Reform.

I mean, vote how you wanna vote but when a party is pushing a Handmaid’s Tale society… it’s a HELL NO from me. 

I will assume that if you are voting Reform, you feel disenfranchised, and you’ve been convinced the childfree millennial women or the immigrants or someone else other than billionaires are the problem. And I will pity you. 

And that’s what was interesting about Hannah’s acceptance speech: she acknowledged why people feel that way, without judgement, and said there’s got to be a better way for EVERYONE, not just people with historic wealth and power. 

Naive? Maybe. I’m not going to pretend being a politician doesn’t mean having your hands tied sometimes. 

But much better than the alternative. 

There are people who’ll say keep politics off LinkedIn and out of wardrobes.

The response to that is: you can’t, it’s already here.

Politics shapes everything from where you’re born, to the life you have, to what you wear, to what happens when you die. 

You only think it has no place in your every day conversations because, ironically, politics has shaped your life in such a way that you are f*cking exhausted from just trying to make ends meet. 

Or because you’re so privileged you don’t have to care. You’re part of the ‘it doesn’t affect me so I can tune out of the news because it’s bad for my mental health’ crew. 

By alllll means, look after yourself. But don’t act like apathy is a noble thing when it gets us as a collective into terrible situations. 

Some people will be reading this like ‘who is Hannah Spencer and what the hell is this about?’ and therein lies the problem. 

Right now we are at a crux point on so many issues, what we need is people who genuinely care about the good of ALL in charge, not just about what’s in it for them. 

We can’t tune out of politics even when we think we have. 

Wouldn’t you rather know what you stand for than stand for nothing?

Makeup or a good jacket may be futile in the face of impending doom, and they are certainly tools layered in privilege - but there is comfort and a sense of safety to be found in personal style during times of crisis.

So what are we wearing for the apocalypse?

Selfish, stupid, ridiculous, dumb.

She’s at the top of a global company and I’ve got two post-grads, lectured at universities and have written a book. 

So no, I don’t think our intelligence or emotional state was the problem.

It hit a nerve. 

And regardless of there being nothing wrong with the sale rail at M&S, the facts remain the same: 

You can’t be leading a major presentation whilst secretly worrying that the button on your blazer is about to fall off, or the wonky stitching on your shirt is beginning to unravel, or that your feet are blistered and bleeding from badly made shoes. 

But you’ve been taught to suffer because society loves nothing more than taking down a woman who won’t.

And that sounds like not so much of a big deal.

In this society, when your every day decisions are subconsciously weighed down by expectations and beliefs, it’s huge.

Last night, the inimitable Yinka Ewuola suggested we change our middle names to Frickin’ to remind us how incredible we are…

But.



My middle name is Lee. 

And watching the brilliant, talented, unique Sophie Jane Lee who I fangirled for so long and now call a friend standing on the stage with her incredible book, Beyond Palatable…

I realised my middle name is already synonymous for Frickin’.

It’s a name randomly shared with one of my dearest friends, and now favourite author. 

And maybe it’s not so random after all.

Life has a funny way, if you are courageous enough to follow your path, of gifting you the people who make all the times you felt weird and alone and freakish worth it. 

People who encourage your dreams, inspire ideas, stand with you and up for you and make you want to be better. Not by force, but by leading themselves so powerfully you can’t help but lead yourself more powerfully too. 

Sophie is one of those special people. 

She platforms others, considers carefully her stance on things, admits her mistakes with grace, loves fiercely and brings joy and vivacity into every room she enters. 

Her book is a manifesto. A battle cry. A hand that grabs yours in the darkness and pulls you up into the light, so that you might do the same for others. 

Sophie deserves every moment of her success, but I know her work is never really about her.

It exists so that once weird, misunderstood little girls with silly middle names like Lee, can finally feel seen, heard and understood. 

Please buy this book - buy it for your friends - buy it for strangers.

Are you a high performer who is constantly scanning for what's missing?

I had my annual ENT therapy follow-up yesterday.

I didn’t realise it was International Hearing Day.

The irony isn’t lost on me.

It’s now three years since I completely lost the hearing in my right ear.

When it all happened, I did what many high performers do best.

I focused on what was missing.

The silence.
The permanent tinnitus.
The imbalance.
The unfairness.
Where I might now be “less than”.

I spiralled because my identity was built on my capability to listen.

I prided myself on that.

So when that felt threatened, I doubled down on self-criticism.

Ever noticed how quickly high performers turn on themselves when something threatens the thing they’re known for?

Because you can be accomplished, intelligent and respected,

Yet still be dysregulated.

Still on high alert, scanning for problems and where you fall short.

High performance doesn’t protect you from that.

My breakthrough wasn’t trying harder.

It was learning to regulate my nervous system.

To pause instead of panic.
To respond instead of react.
To build capacity instead of constantly proving capability.

That’s when I truly started embodying the P.O.W.E.R. Approach, the framework I now teach others.

P – Personal paradigm awareness
O – Owning your own value
W – Wielding your power
E – Evolving your support network
R – Releasing your emotional baggage

Not once.

Every single day.

Three years on, I still hear from the left side only.

We can put a man on the moon and drop bombs on one another at the drop of a hat.

Yet we still haven’t figured out how to repair the delicate mechanisms inside one of our most precious senses.

Make sense of that if you can.

Even so, I’m happier than I've ever been in my life.

Why?

Because I stopped measuring myself by what was missing
and doubled down on what I did have.

If you’re a high performer constantly auditing your gaps, hear this:

You don’t lack capability.

You may, however, lack regulated capacity.

This isn’t about imposter syndrome.

It’s about nervous system regulation.

And that changes everything.
