Ten years went by far too fast.  

Through every up and down, you gave your best.

You loved relentlessly.

You made our family bigger, softer, funnier, and better.

I know that feeling. I’ve been there.

Scary, but not surprising.

As everyone rushes to AI-ify every workflow, process, and task… bad actors are smiling.

This week the public learned of the first large-scale, AI-orchestrated cyberattack.

A state-sponsored group used Anthropic #Claude-Code to automate nearly the entire hacking kill chain - 80-90% at machine speed.

When my pal Abhishek K. Bansal of Autharva, Inc. reached out wanting to do a podcast about the Anthropic breach, I was all in. 

Here’s why this moment matters:

1️⃣ Autonomous Hackers: AI agents now execute major tactical operations - recon, exploit creation, privilege escalation with minimal human touch.

2️⃣ Malicious Tasks, Chunked to Avoid Detection: Attackers split harmful intent into dozens of small “innocent” tasks. The new jailbreak pattern: hide intent in the seams.

3️⃣ Sequenced, chunked recon → exploit → credential theft → exfiltration: Machine-generated scripts, scanning, pivoting, and data retrieval, all automated.

4️⃣ Models Trained to Slow-Play: Not smash-and-grab. Slow, quiet scraping of intelligence, the equivalent of an AI sleeper agent.

5️⃣ Speed + Parallelism: Thousands of requests per second across dozens of orgs simultaneously.

6️⃣ We Need AI-Agent Behavioral Detection: Rapid parallel requests, looping tool calls, autonomous decision chains - these are the new threat signatures.

7️⃣ We Need Deception at Scale: Honey pots. Decoy credentials. Decoy services. Trap the agent - not the human.

But here’s the real superstar of this story:

🎉🥂Data Management! (Woot, woot)

The only reason this attack was detected is because Anthropic had deep logs, telemetry, and lineage - treated as first-class assets.  

If you don’t manage your data, metadata, and logs like first-class assets, you cannot SEE or prove when AI is being misused against you… or by you.

✅ Lineage is your kill-chain graph.
It reveals:
▪ which tools the agent called
▪ what data sources were touched
▪ what scripts were generated
▪ where access pivoted
▪ what was exfiltrated

✅ Chunking is both offense AND defense.
Attackers chunk malicious tasks.
Defenders must chunk, classify, and categorize every table, repo, file, and RAG index with policy tied to each chunk.

👉 Data management is NO longer optional.
It is the control surface of the AI era.

When you plug AI into your ERP, CRM, portals, or business apps… you didn’t install a “feature.”

You opened a new risk door.

Do you know what’s behind that door?
Do you know who’s trying to open it?
Do you know what your AI agents can see… or quietly assemble over time?

Travel is usually a mix of fun, and not fun.

The not fun.  The number of times the word "like" is being added to the multiple, very loud conversations happening all at once.   It makes my ears bleed. 

I did you know you can "Like, I love..." at the same time? I thought love usually infered like - then again in complex relationships like family I do suppose you can love something, without liking it as well. 

As a person who randomly uses the word to much, I will be much more mindful.

Today was a good day.

I kicked off the morning with a 3-hour working session alongside a Fortune 500 ELT, all in preparation for their Board meeting on Tuesday.

Dreams, realities, discussions and strategy to tactical planning in motion for over 3 months.   

What’s on the line?
A $75M supplemental budget - largely for Data & Cyber (mostly going to data, yes rare..).

The budget needed to finally close foundational gaps: 
▪️Quality, reliable, repeatable data
▪️Linkable data across co-dependent processes and lines of business
▪️Policy and controls
▪️A data by design (to proactively mitigate AI, cyber and privacy risks) workforce redevelopment program 
▪️Improved chunking, retrival augmentation and model poisoning
▪️Real ROI tracking that aligns to Corporate Strategy 

Like so many companies, they rushed full-steam into the AI Express - every function sprinting in parallel, in a massive, uncoordinated effort.

And the outcome was predictable:

❌ fragmented investments
❌ repeated “rip-and-replace” cycles chasing the next AI magic bullet
❌ millions spent, little value realized
❌ crying CISO's and Privacy Officers in the corner as risks was amplified with each agent unknowingly added to the stack
❌ and ultimately… the realization that you just can’t skip the basics.

No matter how shiny the tech bro pitch is - 
it’s snake oil without:

The Most Dangerous Thing About AI? Entire Ladder Loss with no tangible replacement, or economic safeguards. 

Ten years is a blink of the eye. 

If you listen to AI leaders, they’re clear:

Sam Altman (OpenAI): AI will “replace 40% of your work.”

Dario Amodei (Anthropic): AI may erase half of entry-level white-collar jobs and push unemployment to 10–20%.

Mark Zuckerberg (Meta): Mid-level engineers “will soon be replaced by AI.”

Satya Nadella (Microsoft): “The knowledge work of today could probably be automated.”

Sundar Pichai (Google): “No job, not even my own, is safe.”

Elon Musk (TELSA): Jobs will become “completely optional.”

And global institutions agree:

World Economic Forum: By 2027 → 69M jobs created, 83M eliminated (net -14M).

U.S. Senate: Up to 100M U.S. jobs could be lost.

United Nations: AI may impact 40% of global jobs and widen inequality.

This isn’t just job loss,  it’s the removal of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rung of economic mobility:
❌ No entry-level
❌ No apprenticeship
❌ No early stretch roles

Without those rungs, people can’t climb anything.  

And it’s already happening.
How many of you lost a job in the last 3 years?
If not you, how many of you know at least 3 people who have been impacted?

#Tech keeps selling efficiency, “opportunity” even space careers - yet where are the new job families, skills lists, pathways, or hiring pipelines?

If AI is this transformative, why isn’t tech doing more to:
▪️Safeguard jobs
▪️Build new rungs (apprenticeships, AI-augmented roles)
▪️Fund real workforce transitions

So what can you do now?

1️⃣ Build durable skills: trades, healthcare, governance, risk, compliance, quality, human-in-the-loop roles.
2️⃣ Upskill continuously: AI literacy, data, systems thinking.
3️⃣ Strengthen financial resilience.
4️⃣ Prepare your kids: adaptability, digital fluency, creativity.

And push for answers:

👉Ask your employer: What is our AI + workforce plan?
👉Ask schools/governments: Where are the guardrails and pathways?

Don’t assume someone else will fix the ladder.
Because the ladder is disappearing, and there is no tangible plans to safeguard education, or the economy.

Iceberg Index?  The Workforce & Economic Titanic Event Early-Warning System Everyone Should Pay Attention To. 

MIT and Oak Ridge National Laboratory just introduced a new workforce study using something called the Iceberg Index - a high-resolution simulation of the U.S. labor market.

It mapped 151M US workers, across 923 occupations, and 32,000 skill to then compare daily tasks to today’s AI technical and cognitive capabilities.

The result:
💥 11.7% of the U.S. workforce could be replaced by AI today.
💥 That’s ~$1.2T in wages exposed - 
not in 2030, right now.

This isn’t fear. It’s foresight. And as we enter the annual corporate gift-giving season of layoffs, and job reductions, here are the questions every one should be asking:

1️⃣ What tasks do I actually perform each day - and how do they map to current AI capabilities?
(It’s tasks that get automated, not job titles.)

2️⃣ Which skills are predicted to be AI-resistant or AI-complementary?

3️⃣ How can I augment my strengths so I work with AI, not compete against it?

4️⃣ What training, certifications, or education pathways build those skills?

5️⃣ As a parent - what skills will my kids need that school isn’t teaching yet?
Critical thinking. Systems reasoning. Communication. Empathy. Technological fluency.

6️⃣ As a leader, how do I better prepare my employees?  Are their projects, task shifts, or workforce upskilling I could provide to help prepare them?

And the questions almost no one asks, but absolutely should:

7️⃣ What is my employer’s workforce development and AI-augmentation strategy?
If there isn’t one - that is the strategy, and it puts you at risk.

8️⃣What employer-paid or reimbursed training can I start using today?Most people never use these benefits.

9️⃣Which AI-complementary skills create upward mobility, not just job protection?

🔟What is my personal AI-augmentation plan?
What will I automate, accelerate, elevate, eliminate, or learn next?

1️⃣1️⃣ What is my fiscal readiness if I were impacted by long term employment.  The golden rule of 6 months salary no longer applies.  Trust me, I know. 

The Iceberg Index doesn’t predict doom.
It provides a blueprint.  

In the Intelligent economy, the only thing more dangerous than being replaced… is being unprepared.
