5 things I would avoid if I started my personal branding journey today.

(follow this to 2x your growth in 2026)

1. Trying to sound impressive. 

↳ Big words do not build connection.
↳ Real language does.

2. Chasing every platform

↳ You do not need to be everywhere.
↳ One platform done well is enough.

3. Overthinking every post

↳ Stop editing the same post 20 times.
↳ Clarity > perfection.

4. Posting randomly

↳ Personal branding needs rhythm.
↳ Follow a strategy to get results.

5. Watching everyone else too much

↳ The more you scroll, the more you copy.
↳ And then your voice disappears.

If I were starting again today, I would keep it simple.

- One platform.
- Clear thoughts.
- Consistent voice.

Everything else grows from there.

In 2023, I posted almost every day.

I do not think I even took a break. 

That consistency changed everything.

→ Clients came in
→ Conversations started
→ The agency began to grow

But in 2024, I decided to take things slow.

Things became hectic and difficult to manage. 

Now I am trying to rebuild the rhythm again.

Some days I succeed.
Some days I miss.

And honestly?

That is part of the game.

Here's the thing:

The most underrated skill on LinkedIn is not writing.

It is consistency. 

Just showing up.

→ Posting.
→ Engaging.
→ Talking to people.

Even when the post gets:

→ 5 likes
→ 12 likes
→ Silence

If you are still here doing that…
I respect you.

Because this platform rewards the people who stay.

Not the people who show up once.

Consistency looks simple.

But it is the hardest skill to maintain.

And the most valuable one.

“AI is taking over.”

Meanwhile, some founders are spending 2 hours rewriting a LinkedIn post on ChatGPT.

Regenerating hooks.

Changing tone.

Asking it to “make it more viral”.

For what?

Your business is not growing because of a caption.

It is growing because of your offer.

Your clarity.

Your decisions.

You can generate 30 posts in one day.

But are you fixing your systems?

Are you improving your service?

Are you expanding your company?

AI can write. Great.

But will you show up every day?

Will you build something worth talking about?

Founders do not need to become prompt experts.

They need to become better operators.

Use the tool.

Do not hide behind it.

Because at the end of the day…

ChatGPT is not running your company.

You are.

I do not work with people who do not know what they want from their brand in 6 months.

That is one of the first questions I ask on a call.

“Where do you want this to go?”

If the answer is:

“Just growth.”
“More visibility.”
“Let’s see.”

It is a red flag.

Clarity matters.

Brand building is not random posting.

If you do not know what you want in 6 months…

How will we measure anything?

More followers?
More customers?
Better positioning?

If you cannot define the outcome, you will blame the process.

And I do not like messy expectations.

So before you hire anyone for branding, marketing, anything 
Ask yourself:

What does success look like for me in 6 months?

If you cannot answer that,

Pause.

Clarity first.

Indian founders spend crores on ads. 

Korean brands go viral with a single scene in a drama.

Why?

Because they sell through stories.

They know the brand ambassador's connections with the fans.

When LANEIGE's lip sleeping mask showed up because a K-pop idol casually used it on a live, it sold out worldwide.

When a café is featured in a drama, it instantly becomes a tourist spot.

Even something as basic as Shin ramen turned into a global craze after popping up in shows.

The difference? Context.

The products aren’t being “marketed.”

They’re living inside stories people are already invested in.

Meanwhile, a lot of Indian brands throw money at endorsements, jingles, and flashy ads.

But they miss the emotional recall.

The story that makes people want to remember.

The lesson is simple…

A product inside a story will travel further than a product inside an ad.

So maybe the question to ask isn’t, “How do I promote my product?”

It’s, “What story can my product belong to?”

You do not need 2 hours to write a LinkedIn post.

You need clarity.

Here is exactly how I write mine.

Step 1: Decide the point.

If you cannot say it in one sentence, the post will be messy.
Example: “Founders overthink content.”

Step 2: Write the hook.

The hook is not an introduction.

It is a pattern break.

Something that makes someone pause.

Like:
“Your posts are not bad. They are unclear.”
Or
“You do not have a content problem.”
If the first line is boring, nothing else matters.

Step 3: Add 2–3 lines explaining why.

Just enough for people to understand what you are talking about.

Step 4: Break it down.

I usually use:
→ 3 points
or
→ Mistake / Fix
People skim. Help them.

Step 5: Add one honest line.

Something real.
“I learned this the hard way.”
“I used to overthink this too.”

That is what makes it relatable.

Step 6: End it properly.

Ask something.
Or tell them what to do next.
“Want help with this? DM me.”
“What are you writing about this week?”

That is it. It's no rocket science.

Clear thought. Strong hook. Clean structure.

Most founders overcomplicate content.

You do not need 20 formats.

You need a few that you can repeat well.

Consistency in format builds familiarity.

Familiarity builds trust.

You learn some things only by doing.

I had no idea I could be a founder.

Until I became one.

For the longest time, I was just preparing for one exam after another.

That was my life.

My plan was simple.

Pursue literature.
Become a research scholar.
Write papers, books, teach in universities.

That was the version of my future I had designed.

But life unfolded differently.

One small step turned into freelance work.

Freelance turned into customers.

Customers turned into a business.

And somewhere in the middle of it…

I became a founder.
I now run an agency and have a team of 4.

Most of us do not know what we are capable of.

We only know what we were planning.

So if something unexpected is pulling you…

Do it.

Say yesss.

You might discover a version of yourself you never prepared for.

It takes 1 client to change everything for you.

I landed my first client in September 2023.

I had 0 knowledge about client engagement.

→ How do I retain them?
→ What if they leave in a month?
→ What if I disappoint them?

I used to overthink every single message.

If they replied late, I panicked.
If they said “let’s discuss”, I assumed something was wrong.

I was careful with everything.

↳ Asked too many questions.
↳ I showed up early.
↳ Overdelivered.

But that one client forced me to grow up.

↳ I learned how to handle feedback.
↳ How to think long-term.
↳ How to stay calm.

And most importantly,
I realised I could actually do this.

I actually thought like a “personal branding expert” for the first time.

Trust me, it was huge for me.

It was not the money.
It was the shift in identity.

One client can do that to you.

So if you are new here, just starting your business, handling your first client…

You’ll be fine.

Everything is an experience, and you’ll end up learning and growing at the end of it.

2023 was all about chasing numbers for me. 

→ 300k+ impressions
→ 700+ likes on every post
→ 300+ comments

I was one of the fastest-growing creators…until it hit me one day.

My bank account was not growing at the same rate.

So my morning 9:30 AM post was giving me the ego boost I needed

But it wasn’t really helping me bring in money.

That was the day I understood something important.

Attention feels like progress.
But authority creates income.

Everything changed when I stopped asking,
“How do I grow faster?”

And started asking,
“Why should someone trust me with their business?”

I started asking the right questions.

Since then, growth has been slow…

But the quality of people who approach me?

Completely different. 
Better. Great in fact.

So the numbers you see on your dashboard?

They’ll only help you if you know how to position yourself right.

1000 likes should also bring in $1000 deals.

That’s real content success.

P.S. How were your initial days here on LinkedIn? How did you crack your first deal?

Your buyer has already decided before the call.

Not completely.

But enough.

They have checked your profile.

Seen your posts.

Seen if you even take yourself seriously.

By the time they say “Let’s jump on a call”…

They already have a feeling.

The call just confirms it.

We think deals close on Zoom.

They do not.

They close when someone looks you up and thinks,

“Okay. This person knows what they are doing.”

Or…

“Not sure.”

If your LinkedIn is silent, messy, unclear…

You need to have a VOICE.

You are not selling on the call.

You are trying to fix doubt.

And that is hard.

So ask yourself honestly.

If you were your own buyer…

Would you feel confident?

Or would you keep searching?

10 seconds on your LinkedIn profile tells me exactly where you stand.

When I get on calls with founders, it becomes very clear where they are in their visibility journey.

I just pay attention to how their profile is built. 

Here is what I look at:

1. Your headline

If your name and photo disappeared, would anyone know what you actually do?
“Founder at XYZ” is not positioning. It is just a label.

2. Your banner

Does it reinforce your expertise? Or is it just there to look nice?
Most people treat it like wallpaper and put random things there.

3. Your featured section

Where is the proof? Testimonials. Case studies. Link to book a call. 
If there is no visible proof, trust drops instantly.

4. Your About section (first 3 lines only)

If those lines are vague, nobody clicks “see more.”

It should clearly answer:

→ Who you help
→ What problem you solve
→ Why you are credible

Not your entire career story.

5. Your last 5 posts

Are you building authority?
Or just staying active?

There is a difference between visibility and positioning.

90% profiles do not fail because of the algorithm.

They fail because the message is unclear.

If your profile is not converting visitors into conversations, it is underperforming.

Meanwhile…

I am writing this post in my pjs at 12:37 AM.

Laptop on the bed.
Hair tied in a messy bun.
Notes app open with 50 random thoughts.

Half-finished ideas.
Voice notes.
Client reminders.
Hooks I might never use.

When this goes live at 9:30 tomorrow morning,
I will barely have my eyes open.

I will drag myself out of bed.
Make coffee.
Change into another set of pjs.
Open LinkedIn.
Start replying to comments.

This is the glamorous part nobody talks about.

The quiet.
The discipline.
The showing up when nobody is clapping.

Founder life is not aesthetic most days.

There is no background music.
There is no highlight reel.

We’re just working quietly in a corner.

If you are building something and it does not look glamorous yet…
Good.

You are still doing it right.

P.S. What does your “behind the scenes” actually look like?

This might be the most weirdly formatted post I've ever written, but again, that's founder life. There's no structure most days.  And that's okay.

I used to think personal branding meant being liked by more people.

Post consistently.
Sound smart.
Be relevant.

But here’s what no one tells you:

The right brand won’t attract everyone.

It’ll repel the wrong ones.
And that’s a good thing.

Because when your content starts sounding like you:

→ Some will unfollow.
→ Some people will scroll past.
→ And a few will lean in and think, “Finally, someone who gets it.”

That’s the point.

You're not here to entertain the algorithm.
You're here to build a brand that filters for you.

One that attracts people who share your values, vibe, and vision.
And quietly closes the door on everyone else.

That’s how clarity turns into clients.
Not by being louder. But by being more you.

If your brand is trying to do too much…
Maybe it’s time to do a little less.
But do it with more honesty.
