Brian Ouellette, a University of Washington graduate, began his career on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) as a runner before returning to Seattle to build his private client practice at PaineWebber. In 2000, he became the Market Commentator for Q13 FOX News This Morning, reporting live daily for over 3 ½ years and making more than 3,000 live TV appearances during one of the most significant boom-and-bust cycles in stock market history.

In 2004, he sold his book of business and founded Shoewallet Active Gear, a product featured on NBC's Today Show, CNN, NY1, and over 250 radio stations, as well as in publications like Shape and Runner's World. Shoewallet produced private label versions for Boeing, the Department of Defense, Skechers, and more across the U.S. and Canada.

In 2010, after reading Sports Illustrated’s "How & Why Athletes Go Broke," Brian recognized the urgent need for athletes to have better advisors. This led him to create Pro Athlete Direct™, an education-based marketing service for advisors to help athletes manage their finances, taxes, legal matters, and real estate needs. His experience helped him develop a system that allowed advisors to build strong connections with sports agents and their athlete clients, guiding them in making strategic financial decisions.

Advisors are experts who can answer. That's it.

Quando è stata l’ultima volta che qualcuno nel tuo team ha detto: “Questo momento di formazione mi è servito davvero tanto"”?

Ieri, insieme al team di Smile to Move, abbiamo parlato di formazione digitale come leva per far crescere le persone. E la parola chiave è proprio 👉🏻 leva 👈🏻  

Troppo spesso la #formazione resta confinata a un’iniziativa HR, a una voce di budget da approvare, a qualcosa che “va fatto”. Rimane separata dalle operation, dagli obiettivi commerciali e dall’esperienza cliente. 

E quando è scollegata dalla realtà quotidiana del lavoro, perde impatto.

Eppure è una delle poche leve che tocca contemporaneamente onboarding, performance e competitività.

▪️ Riduce il tempo necessario per rendere autonome le persone.
▪️ Aumenta la qualità delle decisioni sul campo.
▪️ Rende più coerente l’esperienza che promettiamo come brand.
▪️ Incide sulla retention, perché le persone restano dove sentono di crescere.

In altre parole, ha un impatto diretto su produttività, costi nascosti e crescita del business. Quando la formazione manca o non è progettata con questa logica, il costo si vede: nei tempi lunghi di inserimento, nelle inefficienze quotidiane e nelle opportunità perse.

E allora come fare? 👀 
Ecco tre principi pratici condivisi ieri per trasformarla in una vera leva di business:

1️⃣ Partire dagli obiettivi aziendali, non dal catalogo dei corsi.
Chiedersi: quale comportamento vogliamo cambiare? Quale risultato vogliamo migliorare? La formazione deve nascere da un KPI, non da un calendario.

2️⃣ Inserirla nel flusso del lavoro.
Non un momento isolato, ma uno strumento che supporta le persone mentre lavorano. Micro-contenuti, applicabilità immediata, continuità.

3️⃣ Misurare ciò che conta davvero.
Non solo completamento dei moduli, ma tempo di onboarding, performance sul campo, qualità del servizio, retention. Se non è collegata a metriche concrete, resta percezione.

Quick question for people working in retail and restaurants. If you walked into one of your locations today, would you recognise who joined the team last week?
 
Last week at #UnboxingRetail in Italy, Francesca Dellisanti touched on onboarding and, judging by the room, it clearly hit a nerve.
Because onboarding in many companies still looks like this:
 
Day 1: Welcome.
Day 2: A quick tour.
Day 3: You’re on your own, kid.
 
Some call it “learning by doing”, but most people experience it as “figure it out yourself”.
 
And if you think back to your own first week, chances are you’ve been there too.
 
This happens anywhere people join a new team. And not only in retail or hospitality.
 
The problem is that the first weeks are where the biggest gap shows up between what companies promise and what people actually experience.
 
And that gap is expensive: people leave faster, teams get stretched, and customer experience becomes inconsistent.
 
Many organisations think they have an engagement problem, but more often, they have an onboarding problem.
 
So let me ask you this: if someone joined your team last week… would they feel ready today, or just busy trying to survive?
