People think entrepreneurs are mainly chasing money.

I don’t think that’s true.

I think we’re chasing freedom.

Dan Sullivan describes four freedoms:
Relationships
Purpose
Location
Money

And the longer I build Tick Talent, the more I realise money is only one part of it.

Important, yes.

But money is fuel.

It gives you options.
It buys back time.
It lets you work with better people.
It creates space to do work that actually matters.

Over the last 3 years I’ve been out of balance on all four at different times.

Wrong-fit clients.
Holding on to work I shouldn’t own.
Too much time working alone.
And plenty of cash flow stress.

The thing I’ve learned?

You don’t "attain" these freedoms.
You rebalance them.
Constantly.

For me, success now isn’t “how much money can I make?”

It’s:

Am I building a business that gives me more freedom across all four over time?

plus... am I getting closer to building a house in Italy!?

Why is it so hard to hire great salespeople? 

Is it because the systems that we've built to identify them

are too indexed on their...

1. Resume
2. the Logos that they've worked for
3. their Attainment versus quota
(which by the way might be totally fabricated)

And are we not indexing enough to identify the 

Attitudes and Behaviours

that drive the performance that we need to multiply the impact in our organisation? 


Are we failing because we spend too long looking for "culture fit" and "culture add" 

without realising what a Collaborative culture looks like.

and why a Compliant or Cooperative culture could be incredibly damaging to our business?


What if we are ending up hiring Dividers who are highly capable
but rip our culture apart? 

What if we're just hiring Adders who are good
but don't really move the needle? 

And how do we identify Multipliers!

People say they’re “exploring options”

Most of the time that’s only half the truth.

They already know they’re leaving.

They’re just figuring out where to go.

Often stuck between options until they connect these two ideas.

Moving away from.
and 
Moving towards.


A mentor once explained this idea to me with a simple image: 

Imagine you’re standing in a puddle.

If your goal is to get out of the puddle, you can jump in any direction and succeed.

Left.
Right.
Forward.
Backwards.
- Anything works.

But if you’re jumping toward something specific…

There’s only one direction that works.


That’s the real difference between moving away from something

and moving toward something.


Most people spend their time thinking about the destination.

But the reality of whether they will is simpler:


What puddle are you standing in and how uncomfortable is it for you.

Because when someone is truly happy where they are…

They don’t "explore options"
