Drumroll…book announcement…yes, I have announced my book coming out next week on the 3rd of March in non-US markets and the 31st in the US.

What I haven’t announced and this excites me…drumroll… my fifth book will be in WHSmith business book chart section.

Writing five books is not something I as thinking was in my cards, but here we are.

Ok, can we stop with all the jargon and catchy phrases in our strategies?  Look at the below:

“Our mission is to architect a cloud-native, AI-first ecosystem that democratizes deep-learning insights through a holistic, friction-less framework. We aren't just adopting technology; we are catalyzing a cognitive metamorphosis across our entire value chain.”

Please don’t make a strategy that sounds like this.  What about this one?

“We believe in a symbiotic augmentation strategy. By lean-stacking our proprietary algorithms against market-leading disruptors, we create a virtuous cycle of innovation that is both scalable and future-proof.”

Stop it!  Instead, be honest, practical, and have candor.

If your organization has a strategy phrased like this, get it changed. Using buzzy words and catch phrases doesn’t mean you are succeeding.

Stop the AI "Word Salad." 
Have you seen too many 40-page "Data & AI Strategies" that are full of terms like hyper-convergence and synergistic orchestration, but offer zero actual value to the business?

If your team can’t understand the strategy, do you think they will execute it?

Real AI success isn't about sounding sophisticated; you can focus on three "boring" (but profitable) things:

- Effectiveness: Doing the right things.

- Efficiency: Doing things right.

- Productivity: Doing more with less.

In my latest The Chief Nerd Substack, I break down data and AI strategy more.  Build a "No-BS" strategy that bridges the gap between the data experts and the people actually running your business.

Don't just try to sound smart, ok?  Let's be effective.

Book Recommendation - "Tracking Wonder: Reclaiming a Life of Meaning and Possibility in a World Obsessed with Productivity" by Jeffrey Davis.  I mean, what book has you turn it sideways when reading it?  Which, in my reading this morning, it did.  

Enlightenment - the action of enlightening or the state of being enlightened.  Maybe it is time for another enlightenment.

How is your productivity going?  Using AI to be oh so efficient?  Wait, does efficient mean effective?

We live in a world where WONDER is lost.  I mean, think of it, I am writing this on my laptop with my smartphone next to me, a TV behind me, the convenience of heat in the cold air of winter.  These are things we can take for granted but should. 

I mean, how many of us remember the size of big screen TVs?  Now, we have thin TVs we can hang on the wall.  How many had to run during commercial breaks to not miss part of the episode we were wanting?  Now, we can stream things.

Wonder should be a part of our lives.  What if we created a second enlightenment period.  Maybe not the size and scope of the one in Europe but instead, our own personal enlightenment.  For our careers and lives.

Check out Jeffrey Davis book.  We live in a world that seems to be limiting and/or inhibiting our humanity.  Digital stress, work burnout and the push to do more, AI limiting our critical thinking, social media and polarization, binge watching, doom scrolling.  This seems very negative and these things do have positive things.  How we use them can matter.

Grab Jeffrey's book to help drive tracking wonder.  Use his book to help you discover the kid in you, your curiosity and creativity (2 of my 3 Cs of data literacy). 

Don't get burnt out.  Don't just be productive.  Learn to say no.  Learn to reflect.  Learn to pause and take in wonder.
