Harsh truth for life sciences founders:
Strong science ≠ Strong positioning.
Bad positioning = generic company.

Here are 8 mistakes I noticed after auditing 73 life sciences companies on LinkedIn:

❌ Leading with claims instead of proof.
↳ "Revolutionary", "Next-gen", or "transformative.
Without evidence or a clear angle, those words blur together.

❌ Describing the technology instead of the problem.
↳ Describe platforms, mechanisms and modalities.
Without the problem you're solving, your message loses context and urgency.

❌ Using the same category labels as everyone else.
↳ "AI-driven drug discovery", "Novel delivery platform", or "Precision medicine"
Those terms lost meaning years ago.

❌ Positioning yourself around features instead of impact.
↳ Focusing on the capability isn't a position.
Focus on the change you create and who feels it first.

❌ Sounding too broad.
↳ When you talk to everyone, you talk to no one.
Clear position = clear customer (no -s).

❌ Ignoring what competitors claim.
↳ When you ignore what others sound like, and you accidentally copy their language.
Do a benchmark and find the gap to stand out.

❌ Hiding behind scientific accuracy.
↳ When technical precision becomes the whole message, you disappear into a haze of jargon.
Focus on the problem you solve and the impact you have on it.

❌ Avoiding a strong point of view.
↳ Most companies never say their point of view out loud.
Best position = conviction.

English was a struggle for me.

But every week:

Investors hear this every day.
They want clarity, not buzzwords.

Your data matters, but your message decides whether they stay engaged.
If you can’t spell out why your approach stands out, they won’t do the work for you.

A tough question from an investor stings for a moment, yet failing to define your uniqueness can cost you months of fundraising.

You might not leave every meeting with funding. 
But showing up without a sharp message almost always ends the same way.

So sharpen your story.

Here’s what actually sets you apart, and what to do if you feel lost in a crowded space:

1) Identify the "non-negotiable truth" behind your science.
↳ Most teams skip the hard part: calling out the overlooked insight that shapes everything you do.
↳ Fix this by identifying the belief your science proves that others underestimate.

2) Map the real-world consequences of that truth.
↳ If partners can’t link your insight to real-world outcomes, you stay “interesting” instead of essential.
↳ Fix this by mapping how your insight reshapes decisions, costs, timelines, or patient impact.

3) Connect it to proof only you can show.
↳ Without evidence or a capability that others can’t copy fast, you sound like everyone else.
↳ Fix this by highlighting the data, platform edge, or method that gives you a measurable lead.

High-performing biotechs don’t compete on buzzwords, but on earned positions.

Build a narrative that shows the truth you see, the impact it has, and the proof you own.
