40 words cold emails is the new "SHORT".

+50 words is too much, here’s why:

I analyze thousands of emails monthly. 

• The long ones rarely work. People just don’t read them.
• The average person spends 2 seconds previewing email.
• If email's good prospect mayspend 8 more seconds scanning it.

That's 10 seconds total of their attention.

Average adult reading speed: ~200–300 words/minute

In 10 seconds:

200 wpm ~33 words
300 wpm ~50 words

That’s about 40 words average.

Data proves it:

✅ Long emails get ignored. Or worse land in spam.

Here’s the cold email formula I use:

1 sharp opener (make it relevant)
1 line on the pain or trigger
1 line for value offer or social proof 
1 simple CTA
Plain text signature
PS with more context (social proof, case study)

No stories.
No jargon.
