Anthropic General Counsel Jeff Bleich says AI will kill the billable hour. AI eliminates the tedious work that made hourly billing lucrative. The result: firm incentives no longer align with client interests. Clients want efficiency and outcomes, not more hours. Firms that adapt fastest will win.

My take: This isn’t new. KM and innovation leaders have been saying this for years. The difference now is that the technology is forcing the conversation. Law firms that already invested in knowledge management and process improvement are better positioned for this shift. The ones that treated KM as overhead instead of strategy will struggle the most.

Behind the scenes with Harvey at Legalweek!

Thanks to all of these brilliant folks for making the KM&I for In-House Legal Roundtable Lunch a success!

All week I focus on #AI and how to use various advanced #technology tools to make my life more #efficient and #effective. 

Honestly, it’s overwhelming.

So I try to take at least one day a week and think of #lowtech ways to do so. 

Today I realized how much time I waste whenever I make eggs.  I pull the carton out of the refrigerator, set it on the counter, open it, take out the eggs, close the carton, and put the carton back in the refrigerator.

Then  it hit me: remove the top of the carton and grab eggs, as needed? 

From six steps to one. 

This is probably gonna save me at least 35 seconds a day.

Three updates in three days signal where legal AI platforms are heading.

**March 5, 2026**  
Harvey announced GPT-5.4 is now live in the platform, reporting improved reasoning performance and a 91.0 percent score on Harvey’s BigLaw Bench benchmark, up from 89.8 percent for the prior model.

Harvey introduced an agent powered platform integrated with Microsoft 365 Copilot, allowing lawyers to begin work in Microsoft tools and transition directly into Harvey workflows.

The direction is becoming clear.

Legal AI is evolving beyond standalone tools and moving directly into the environments where lawyers already work.

Better models.  
Deeper integrations.  
Mobile access.

The legal AI stack is maturing quickly.

𝗔𝗜-𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘄 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵-𝗦𝗮𝘃𝘃𝘆 𝗟𝗮𝘄 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗺𝘀

An AI-native law firm is built from the ground up with AI as the primary engine of service delivery. It is not a traditional firm that added AI tools to existing workflows. 

The difference is structural. Traditional firms run on the pyramid model: partners supervise associates who do the bulk of billable work. AI-native firms augment their lawyers with technology at every level, using it as the primary source of leverage rather than headcount. The result: a small team can match the output of a traditional team many times its size.

This changes everything downstream. Pricing shifts from hourly billing to flat fees or value-based models. Turnaround drops from weeks to hours. Overhead collapses.

These firms are not experiments. They are funded, regulated, and serving real clients.

The key distinction: AI-enabled means AI helps lawyers work. AI-native means the firm was designed so AI does the work, and lawyers supervise.
