The taxi ride: I'm also an award winning social marketeer with 20 years of experience crafting strategies, creative, and process to excel at social marketing and growth. I've helped build brands across the US, EMEA, APAC, and LA. My focus is on creating results-driven strategies, campaigns, and creative for brands across all customer facing touch points including social media and influencers. I've managed and grown teams up to 20+ and P&L's up to 10m.

I gotta say something that's gonna piss the social crowd off. 

If you're not chronically online yourself, you won't ever be that great at social (sorry not sorry cause I know a lot of y’all think you’re good at social). 

I'm not saying chronically online in an active yourself kind of way. I don't post on TikTok and rarely post on my IG feed, but I'm on social media an average of 5 hours a day and that's one of the reasons I'm so good at what I do. 

Like, how you gonna make social strategies, creative, campaigns, etc... if you're barely even on the platforms you're doing it for? If you don't understand that the weirder the better, that people skip right over highly polished content (because you would too), that funny, dumb shit is what people are sharing with their friends and audiences, that therapy quotes and recipes or makeup looks is what they're saving, that a lot of people go to their favorite TikTokers page before they go shopping? 

I'm gonna die on this hill if anyone wants to join me.

You ever wonder what it's like to be autistic? Today I hesitated asking a question about something because I know we're labeled as asking too many questions which in turn neurotyps think we're being argumentative which in turn leads to us burning out. 

So, I asked the question. But now I'm waiting for the inevitable 'you're making people uncomfortable' chat. 

So like, it's not even 10 am y'all.

I cannot even begin to explain the joy of being with other neurodivergent folks. 

Being able to unmask, to be oneself, and to know they ‘get you’. Not having to edit and censor yourself constantly. 

Yesterday I spent time with other adult NDs and I noticed at the end of the day I wasn’t exhausted and regretful about every thing that came out of my mouth. 

And the best part? Even neurotypical can be themselves around us. 

Having NDs on your teams, especially leadership teams, is so needed. We deserve to be there and to be comfortable.

Off the back of my last post about being chronically online…

Look. I’m a head of social. I’m responsible for everything from strategy to creative to roll out to production to budgets. 

For example, last week I was doing a manual audit. It’s my first step in ANY strategy I do. I audit my clients channels, their competitors, and then industry similar brands we can learn from. 

I was quite literally on IG and TT from 9 am to 6 pm everyday last week. FOR WORK. 

Then I went home and scrolled for my own shit which included inspo for my bathroom renovation, places I want to hit up in Milan next month, new mascara, stuff for my cat, recipes for new cake flavors, and lastly a new house in general. 

I AM CHRONICALLY ONLINE. 

But guess what else I did this week? 

Wrote a business plan (without ai), tried out 3 bakeries on my list, 4 bookstores (and bought 5 books), went to my favorite newsstands, read 2 books, had book club, tried a new recipe for pasta out, went to the library 2x to browse, bought aformentioned new mascara (plus some new skincare and perfume), did my nails, went to a spin class 3x, and walked a lot. All without being online. 

You can still be chronically online and yet still be offline and ‘touch grass’, but if you work in social media, and I’ll say this again, if you are not online a significant amount of time per day, what even are you doing?

Oh just me, a woman who has de-centered men in her life, over here researching diamond rings for a client and whose algorithm now keeps serving her engagement rings who is now wondering if she should buy herself a massive rock because there is no way in hell she's getting married again.

I think I want a job where I don’t have type anymore so I can have some long ass nails.

You know those weeks where like, you're a single parent, your kid is sick af so he's home and waking up all night long so you are getting zero sleep, your cat dies, you're on a new custody schedule, your doctor is like, making you take loads of tests so you're having to go to the effing blood labs every other day, you're trying to get the NHS to schedule your kids MRI for the 800th time, your ex is annoying the ever living shit out of you, you're questioning your whole existence and yet you still gotta get that gd report out? 

Yeah. So. How's your week?

Btw, I'm ok. Drinking lots of lemonade if you know what I mean.
