The taxi ride: I'm also an award winning social marketeer with 20 years of experience crafting strategies, creative, and process to excel at social marketing and growth. I've helped build brands across the US, EMEA, APAC, and LA. My focus is on creating results-driven strategies, campaigns, and creative for brands across all customer facing touch points including social media and influencers. I've managed and grown teams up to 20+ and P&L's up to 10m.

Guys, I just blocked someone (that you probably all know) because he was trying to tell me 'respectfully' that as a head of social I should be telling clients that followers should be at the very bottom of their list in terms of importance. 

Dude, I would LOVE if that worked. I once had a 10m a year client whose entire team's bonuses were tied directly to Instagram follower growth. No joke. 

I've had so many clients who report to higher ups who don't know anything about social and only judge success by follower count. I can't change how they run their businesses internally and I don't want to. 

So long as I can provide them quality leads that help their content and brands PERFORM on social, I'm happy.

To be clear: I blocked him cause I don't want to see his content anymore.

Sometimes I think about moving back to the states because I see the salaries roles like mine would get there, but then I remember that I have things like free health care, food that doesn't cost my entire salary, proximity to travel around Europe whenever I want, a good work life balance, and no guns to worry about and then I'm like, nah, I'm good.

I've worked in social for over 15 years now and I can confidently say that compared to the amount of people that work in social, I don't know a lot that actually know how social works. 

Get me? 

More specifically on the agency side. Cause the thing is, agencies should be providing something you can't do internally and if they don't even know how to tangibly grow your audience on social, then they're just making cool content that does...nothing. 

I know we all talk about audience growth being a vanity metric, but what even is an agency doing if not growing your audience?

I've also never worked for a brand or a client that didn't want follower growth. So...let that sink in.

Controversial marketing opinions I have 👀


1. Influencers earning 6-figures while junior marketers struggle on £30K will never sit right with me.

2. Most brands don't have a marketing problem; they have a consistency problem.

3. Companies want viral results but "safe" ideas. Pick one, babe. They can't coexist.

4. If your team doesn't understand the actual audience, your strategy is already dead.

5. Brands say they want innovation but reject anything that doesn't look like last year's deck.

6. You don't need a big budget to make good marketing. You need taste.

7. Most brand pages are boring because they prioritise committee approvals over personality.

8. Organic content isn't dying. People just don't have the patience to build it properly.

9. Creators with strong personal brands are more trusted than corporate accounts. The data literally proves it.

10. Marketing teams underestimate community until they desperately need it.

11. You can't measure "culture fit" on a spreadsheet but brands keep trying anyway.

12. The industry is obsessed with metrics but still confused about what actually drives impact.

13. Brands that don't invest in long-term creator partnerships will fall behind. It's not optional anymore.
