And I probably shouldn’t say this, but…

This week, I traveled across the country and met several European industry leaders.

What struck me most?
 👉 Bulgarians, and foreigners living here, often underestimate what’s right in front of them.

There’s a persistent belief that:
❌ “Real ambition are abroad”
❌ “Serious companies are abroad”
❌ “If you want to build big, you deal with Western Europe or the US”
That belief is simply wrong.

Here are just a few examples of world-class companies built in Bulgaria:
Dronamics: European pioneer in cargo drones, behind the first postal drone flights in Europe.
EnduroSat: 60 satellites already in orbit via SpaceX. Bulgaria is now the 2nd largest satellite producer worldwide, after the US.
SUNOTEC: One of the largest solar developers globally.  (10,000 MW, 630 sites, 24 countries).
Milara International Ltd.: Defense robots exported to the U.S. Army at industrial scale.
odelo: Headlights for Mercedes, Volkswagen, and Audi produced in Bulgarian factories.

After a full week meeting leaders like these (and yes, the list is far longer than one post, even if I admire Stoil Petrov for trying to compile it), I went back to our base: Bansko.

And it reinforced a simple truth:
Today, you can build an ambitious, international business from anywhere... the talent, mindset, and execution are there.

Sometimes I have to pinch myself to make sure this is real…
Saturday was one of those moments.

Starting, and now scaling, a business like Capto is not easy every day.
It is definitely a life of adventure, with daily challenges to solve.
While this is a journey I truly enjoy events like the one organised by the Belgium Bulgaria Luxembourg Business Club on Saturday night.

The theme was “The Masters of AI”.
A gathering of business leaders in Bulgaria, with a strong Belgian and Luxembourgish touch.
An amazing setting at the Grand Millennium Sofia,
And great artists, including a grand opera singer like Gergana Nikolaeva.

A fantastic evening overall, meeting amazing people like Cecilia, Darina, and Svetlin, and catching up with Sylvain and Alessandro.

Fun fact: our first three clients at Capto were Luxembourgish (1 and 3) and Belgian (2)… so you can imagine the pleasure of connecting even more with this community in Bulgaria.

Time to close the first half of January 🧭

After a first week focused on supporting our Bulgarian clients for the switch to 💶 and reconnecting with Peter after the Christmas break …this week was really about setting the direction.

We aligned on our goals for the next 6 months and how we want to create the most value for our clients and the community.

Three clear drivers will guide Capto in the coming months:
1️⃣ Peter will lead more sharing
 → real use cases
 → real results from Automation & AI Agents
2️⃣ I’ll focus on enabling sales
 → clearly showing what we do
 → and why our delivery process works
3️⃣ Lyubomir and the dev squad will keep raising the bar
 → impact first
 → time saved for finance teams

The weekend starts now but from Monday, we’ll be presenting what we do to several businesses in the UK 🇬🇧

Building with transparency, the team asked me to share this.

At Capto, we’re growing but in a controlled way.
We’re bootstrapped = Time and resources are limited.
So we’re intentional.

We only engage with businesses we genuinely admire for what they do.
An ambitious airport, a worldwide telecom group, a payment dream team.
(I could keep going, and yes, if you’re a client reading this: we truly admire you.)

Over the weekend, the team was impressed by how I approach outreach and asked me to share one real example.

Here’s the truth 👇
The people who benefit the most from Capto are almost always CFOs.
And then… the magic happens, our outreach process looks like this:
1️⃣ The team or I spot a company or a CFO on LinkedIn that genuinely catches our eye for some reason
2️⃣ We sanity-check: are we confident we can actually help them?
3️⃣ Peter or I connect and follow the company
4️⃣ If they accept, we explain why we can help them specifically
5️⃣ If they’re not active on LinkedIn → email
6️⃣ If I can find a number → call
🌟 And finally… the last resource: a handwritten postcard
Yes. A real postcard. ✉️

Once a postcard is sent, we know we’ve done everything we reasonably can.

We can’t work with everyone anyway our number of monthly spots is intentionally limited.

A Financial Reporting Story.
We’re waiting... Three days.

Why three days for a client to validate whether their AI employee is doing the job right?

Let me explain.
Since last Sunday, one of our clients has had two new financial reports fully handled by their AI employee. The Capto team delivered the outputs… and then we waited.

Why?
Because the human counterpart still needs to run the same reports manually to compare results.

And no, the report itself doesn’t take three days.
But like many of my friends in Finance and Legal, teams are stretched thin.
Everything can’t be done at once.

So the report, based on data from the previous week, was only reviewed and analysed three days later.

Here’s the interesting part.
After a few final adjustments next week, this finance team will be able to see what’s happening in their business three days earlier.
Every single week.

Last month I had a call with a CEO in a fast-growing moving + storage company (think: booming city, intense competition, big ambitions).

What stuck with me wasn’t “AI hype”.

It was the clarity of the goal:
“I want to scale to multiple countries… and eventually work myself out of the CEO role.”

And he nailed the uncomfortable truth about AI in Finance:
✅ In marketing, 80/20 can be fine.
✅ In accounting, it’s 100% or it’s wrong.

So we aligned on a simple approach that I wish more SMEs adopted:
The “Automation → Intelligence” sequence:
1️⃣ Map the manual reality (every spreadsheet, every copy/paste, every “only Maria knows how”)
2️⃣Blueprint the future process (so everyone agrees on “this is how it should work”)
3️⃣ Automate a few quick wins first (3–4 tasks that show ROI fast)
4️⃣ Then add AI on top (only where it truly helps: interaction, orchestration, retrieval, not making up numbers)

If you’re a CFO/CEO in an SME and you’re trying to modernize Finance without burning money on experiments, this is the playbook.
