Job burn-out. Toxic workplace. Career dissatisfaction. During my assorted careers in hospitality management, sales, and human resources, I’ve been through all of the above. I somehow navigated through each challenge on my own, but it certainly wasn’t easy. After my last transition, I considered hiring a career coach. The more I learned about the services they provide, the more I realized I had the skills, knowledge, and expertise to actually BECOME a career coach. 

Just as I reached this conclusion, an acquaintance approached me with the opportunity to join the Career Development staff at a local college. Talk about serendipity!

•Design and implement career exploration and planning activities for the University Advising & Career Development Center
•Assist in the design and implementation of career exploration and career development activities for students and alumni in collaboration with academic advisors and employer development and outreach personnel
•Administer and interpret appropriate career development assessment instruments
•Collaborate with academic advisors in providing holistic services and support to students
•Conduct seminars/presentations on career-related assessments, interviewing techniques, resume preparation and job search strategies

•Advise a caseload of 300 students; assist in preparation of becoming educators
•Identify students who are at-risk and highlight opportunities for academic success
•Serve on the Summer Camp Committee to develop summer camps for K-12 students to enhance collaborative relationships with school and community partners
•Create tracking systems to display where students are in their program to ensure efficient class offerings and address student needs
•Assist with the planning and coordination of monthly SEHS game nights to build rapport with students and help them foster relationships amongst their peers
•Serve on the Academic Standards Committee and Restructuring Task Force Committee

Graduate Assistant - Faculty Development Center

•Consulted with Exploratory and First Time in Any College students to review their academic and professional aspirations and build plans to achieve their goals
•Influential in the development and launching of an online group advising program that allows students greater access to academic resources and support
•Advised during Fast Track Orientation for new students to help them become part of Eastern’s community
•Created the new and transfer student manuals utilizing Canva

•Assisted with the planning and execution of events such as benefits enrollment, employee recognition, and organization-wide meetings
