Menta is a not-for-profit enterprise agency that has been providing free, impartial support and advice services dedicated to improving the potential of early stage and growing companies, organisations and social enterprises across the Suffolk area for over 30 years.

As a board director, my role is to provide oversight of, and strategic direction to the CEO and his team, assist the organisation to boost economic development, influence support organisations, encourage enterprise, create jobs and improve the potential of their clients across the region.

mi has been developing outstanding and award winning web technology for a broad range of SME, academic and corporate clients across the UK and Europe since 1998.

mi delivers a full range of web development services including WordPress based content management sites that put the client in control of their website.  Transactional ecommerce sites, based on Magento, that provide functionality rivaling that of the worlds most respected online stores.  Database integration that provides the customer with 24/7 access to their data, and, with our team of UK based developers, we can also deliver fully bespoke solutions that are tailored to the clients exact requirements.

All of these sites can be integrated with the major search engines and social networking sites, and be designed to operate across mobile, tablet and PC platforms.

mi does not employ in-house designers.  Instead, we partner with a wide range of design agencies, using their design expertise for our clients, and enabling our technical team to deliver added value technology to theirs.

mi was successfully acquired by web integration specialists, NetXtra Ltd, in March 2016.

mi Commerce Ltd

mi Commerce Ltd was an ecommerce software development company specialising in multi-channel (web, EPoS, telesales, EDI) order and warehouse management, supply chain and fulfilment software for SME retailers, wholesalers and distributors.

As founder of the company, I was responsible for conceiving, formulating and specifying the original micommerce system concept, and then delivered ongoing strategic management of the development team and policing of the user experience.  

As well as directing the business and its strategy, I developed and negotiated key commercial relationships and became central to revolutionising clients’ systems, processes and market presence by combining implementation of the system with ongoing strategic consultancy

In the process, I also raised in excess of £1m through bank, grant, angel and client investment to fund development and marketing.

The IP for the system was sold to a key client, enabling their continued use of the system with British American Tobacco.

Sci-Clone Computerised Business Systems

SciClone was a company I founded in 1989 along with 2 colleagues.  We developed software for the advertising industry that was licensed to the major market and media research companies (such as Research International, TNS and Nielsen)  around the world.  

The software provided a simple tool for media planners from agencies and sales staff from media owners to analyse the data held in national, specialist and business readership surveys without needing to understand the complex software used by data analysts.

I successfully completed an exit from the company in June 2010.

Energetic, focused CEO driving innovation, transformation and thought leadership in data protection and privacy. 

Founder and head of The DPO Centre, the UK and EU’s outsourced data protection officer resource centre.  As an innovative and pioneering organisation, The DPO Centre, and its ever-expanding team of experienced data protection officers, advisors and influencers have been responsible for shaping and structuring data protection compliance for over 800 organisations globally.

Strategic advisor and NED of regional enterprise agency, Menta.  Consisting of an experienced group of industry professionals, the board provides oversight of, and strategic guidance to the CEO and his team in their efforts to boost economic development, encourage enterprise and employability and improve the growth potential of organisations across the region.

I have been fortunate to be able to found, scale and successfully exit from 3 technology organisations over the course of the last 30 years. As a keen athlete, I have competed in some of the world’s toughest ultra-running challenges, including the Marathon des Sables, Cappadocia Ultra Trail, Grand to Grand, For Rangers and Arctic Ice Ultra.
