2025 was a year... Hot damn.

It was perhaps the most challenging year we've had so far, but I often tell myself (and the team who still listens to my shitty stories 😅):

It's part of growing up.

And we really matured this year.

What went well:

• We've almost doubled our Revenue (80.6% growth) (and our profits)
• March last year we moved into our very own office space (with our own studio, good vibes and a true neonsign)
• We're now 30 people (!!!) - (16x different nationalities)
• GrooooowthFooooriiaaaaa - we launched the first real B2B SaaS marketing event here in Copenhagen with 120 participants, and multiple partners
• We've launched our own content vault, and have done more creative work than ever before
• We opened our UK branch (Matt Laybourn 💪)
• Webinars, events (CMO dinners, partner events), and we even ended up on talking about danish culture on BBC... 😅

I know, I know... 

You didn't come here for the humble brags - 

you came for the ruthless self reflection that's only done on a late Sunday night with a chocolate milk and a bunch of winegummies around, so:

What didn't go so well:

• While we grew our overall revenue, we didn't manage to grow our MRR nearly as much (20%)
• We've said goodbye to a few people a long the way (for the first time really) - that's never ideal, and never the plan when you start out working with someone
• We had a LOT of plans going into 2025, and while we executed on A LOT of them, we definitely missed a few of them (= this year we're narrowing down)
• Our model got us 'here' - but we realized along the way that it wouldn't get us where we need to go (without tweaks) - it just took us to long to realize
• I had waaaay to many long nights - personally I failed to work 'on the business' and ended up working in the business to much

Beyond that it's been a really rough year for B2B SaaS companies (yes, some are doing great) - but the ones that are struggling are facing the following - ( a few snapshots of what I've seen):

• Valuations are down to 4-5x ARR - which puts pressure on the entire organization, and especially create a mismatch between expectations from founders and their VC's - this pressure trickles down to us = yikes. The only ones having higher valuations are the ones with unique AI infrastructure tie ins (from my perspective).
• Efficiency is still the name of the game - which pushes people towards inhousing / using AI - and while the jury is still out, quality takes a massive hit (in the cases we have data on, I've only seen this be the right choice about 20% of the time so far)
• Layoffs - everywhere. I've seen a lot of good people let go this year, more than the previous years - it ties into the part about efficiency, but it also ties back into some of these products, because of the introduction of AI, not being fully adoptable (and the market sees that). 

All of this, is something we've felt this year - but don't get me wrong: 

Maturing is good. For the market, and for us.

I am a firm believer in trusting your gut, I’ve mentioned it many times in here.

But…your gut is not a strategy when you’re spending money on LinkedIn ABM 😅

Not to be a downer but things in B2B SaaS marketing are getting harder. And for some reason, most teams overcomplicate ABM.

Then they run ABM… and judge it like lead gen ❌

The scariest part of switching from lead gen to demand gen is the jump.

Liam Bartholomew’s advice in today’s Marketing Corner episode was simple:

Come with the evidence first.

Split the funnel, compare conversion rates across lead sources, and show leadership what’s undeniable.

Because if you walk in with opinions, you’ll get opinions back.

But if you walk in with data… it gets a lot harder to ignore.

And if you can’t get full buy-in yet, you can still make “baby steps” alongside lead gen:
- Start ungating content
- Run separate campaigns optimized for reach + engagement
- Add self-reported attribution (“How did you hear about us?”)
- Build reporting to prove the side project works

Then, as one system goes up, you taper the other off.

Because yes, demand gen is the better model.

But the reality is… most marketers are also thinking:
“Sounds great, but I like my job.” 😅

“Great… demand gen is working.”

But working for who exactly?

As Liam Bartholomew explains here, you can build a brand around almost anything.

The problem is when it’s the wrong audience.

Demand gen only works if positioning, content, and capture are aligned from day one.

Otherwise, you’re just building demand you can’t convert. 😅
