I worked as a server earning $7.50/hr before landing my first corporate job

It took a long time to land my first opportunity in corporate because of my background. I came to this country with no English, no network, no connections, and no guidance on how to properly secure a job opportunity.

My friends were landing these big corporate jobs. Their parents were proud. My parents supported me, but deep down they knew that I was capable of more.

All I was getting were rejections from my dream jobs. And as a first-gen, my parents couldn’t help me much either.

But I eventually found people who were willing to help me. I came on LinkedIn, networked, and pitched myself to recruiters. And no matter how many mistakes I made along the way, I still did it.

I went from being overlooked and dismissed to being valued and successful. From earning $7.50/hr and being broke, to landing job offers at big companies and creating multiple six-figure income streams.

For anyone who feels stuck in their career, those who want to land their dream jobs, those who feel overlooked, or feel like their background may hold them back, this is your reminder that it is possible.

We can all become winners, no matter what background we have or what others say about it.

We’re all replaceable in the workforce

If we leave tomorrow, that role might be filled. The emails will still get answered. The projects will continue. Life at work will go on, because that’s how businesses operate.

But at home? We are not replaceable.

No one can fill my place as a daughter, a sibling, a friend. No one can show up for my family the way I can. No one can prioritize my health for me. 

Work will always be there. But moments with loved ones? They don’t wait around. Once they pass, we can’t get them back.

I’ve learned this the hard way. Prioritizing work over everything might earn you recognition, but it can also cost you precious time with the people who matter most.

Protect your time. Protect your energy. Protect your peace.

We are replaceable at work, but we are irreplaceable at home.

Success isn’t just climbing the ladder to the top

For a long time, I thought it was

I believed success meant non-stop hustle, promotions, and titles. I thought the more I achieved, the more valuable I would feel

But I learned the hard way that chasing those things without pause led to burnout, exhaustion, and feeling disconnected from the things and people that mattered most to me

There were moments when I was working so much that I barely had time to check in with my family. There were days when I ignored my own mental health because I thought taking a break would mean I wasn’t working hard enough. I equated rest with weakness.

But with time, and a lot of self-reflection, I redefined what success means to me: Success is also rest. Success is spending quality time with family without feeling guilty. Success is prioritizing your mental health and not seeing it as a setback. Success is finding joy in your work and your life. not just surviving, but thriving. 

Success is being present, in your career and in your personal life.

Don’t sacrifice your well-being for a title. Titles come and go, but your health, your relationships, and your peace of mind are priceless.

True success is balance.

It took me a while to realize this, and I’m still learning every day. But I know now that achieving career goals means nothing if I lose myself in the process.

We each define success in our own way, and finding that balance is the real achievement.

A good manager can change everything

I’ve had managers who:

- Encouraged me to speak up in rooms I felt too small for
- Gave me stretch assignments even when I wasn’t sure I was ready
- Coached me with kindness and feedback, not fear

And I’ve also had the opposite: the micromanagers, the dismissive ones, the ones who made me question my own voice.

If you’ve had a good manager, you know how rare and life-changing that is.

They don’t just help you grow professionally. They help you:

Build self-trust
Take bigger risks
Set boundaries without guilt
Believe that you deserve to be where you are

To every leader out there: never underestimate your impact. 

To every employee: if you’re not being supported, know that it’s not your fault. You deserve more.

Great managers don’t just manage. They lift others. And oftentimes, they change lives.

One thing I’ve learned working across industries is that growth rarely fails because of bad ideas. It fails because of bandwidth

Most people aren’t short on creativity or ambition. 

They’re short on time. On capacity. On people to handle the tasks that keep the business running while it tries to scale.

I learned that the hard way when I became a founder.

One of the biggest challenges wasn’t visibility or strategy, it was keeping up with demand.

Customers had questions. Partners needed updates. Clients needed follow-ups. And I was trying to keep everyone happy all at once.

All of that pulled time away from the work that actually moved things forward. From the outside, you’d think the big challenges are strategy or innovation… but it’s usually the operational things: Scheduling, follow-ups, payments, support… The list goes on.

I eventually learned that the real question isn’t: “Can we grow?”, but “Can we support growth when it actually shows up?”

For example, platforms like Bland came to change the game. I’ve been speaking with their people and seeing what they’re building and I think we’re reaching the future now. Their Voice AI handles the conversations like booking appointments and taking requests of millions without burning out people.

As a former founder, I’ve seen how many industries still depend on the phone to get things done (e.g., healthcare, financial services, logistics, hospitality), and how much time gets spent just coordinating, confirming, rescheduling, asking, checking, and verifying. It’s important work, but it drains capacity fast and keeps people stuck in tasks that don’t move the business forward. And that’s what’s being fixed now: giving people the capacity to focus on higher-value work.

Because in 2026, success isn’t just about having great ideas. It’s about having the capacity to execute them. 

I’m excited to see where the future of work with AI takes us.

I had a conversation with a friend regarding her jobs application status

One of the things that stood out was when she said: “I have applied here before and got rejected. I don’t think I’m qualified to be there”

I looked at her and said: “Maybe at the time you applied there was someone else who checked all the boxes, or tons of other factors that could have influenced that rejection, it doesn’t necessarily mean you are not qualified to work there”.

And it’s true. There are a lot of factors that influence a hiring decision, but it’s not a complete indicator of your qualifications or your skills

I also told her not to close the door so quickly. 

I’ve heard tons of stories of people who apply 3+ times to companies even after getting rejected, and end up getting hired on one of those last applications.

Now, when you apply for a company after getting rejected, try to reflect and analyze what went wrong last time. Make sure you improved in all areas that you can actually control (resume, interviewing, active networking, etc).

You don’t lose anything by applying again. Another door might open for you.

Don’t close the doors so quickly. Rejection can truly be redirection.

Years ago, I remember scrolling through LinkedIn and seeing people share their wins:

→ New jobs
→ Speaking gigs
→ Book deals
→ Clients pouring in

I was happy for them, but I asked myself:

“Why not me?”
“Am I falling behind?”


I wasn’t bitter, I was just tired.
Tired of doing the work and seeing no results.
Tired of clapping with empty hands.

But something shifted when I stopped treating other people’s success as a threat.
I started treating it as evidence.
Proof that it was possible.

So I clapped louder.
Not out of obligation, but out of hope.

Because if it’s happening for them,

14 years ago, I've came across a decision that changed my life.



We were broke.
No jobs. No money. Just us.

He kept getting rejected.
And he was dealing with things most people couldn’t see.

He bought me a ring anyway.
On a credit card that was already maxed out.

Not because it made sense.
Because I mattered to him.

That’s when I knew.

We were living at his parents’ house.

I didn’t have a green card.
I couldn’t work.
We couldn’t afford to get married.
And I didn’t speak English.

The future looked bright… I thought :)

I am a woman of faith.

God changes everything.

Today, our lives have changed.

We have three kids.
They’re everything.

He shows up for them every day.
That’s what matters.

We have a home.
Nothing fancy. Just home.

He’s written three books.

I’ve spent years working in tech.
Now I’m building something of my own.

I’m a US citizen now.
I speak English confidently.

Most important part?
We’re still here.
Still choosing each other.
Still growing.
