Others specifically target compliance verification tools:

Let me make this VERY clear:

...and scratched the part of my brain I can't ignore. 


So, I forensically tested their deployment. 

What did I find?

𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗕𝟮𝗕.

• 42 detection patterns.
• Same audit evasion logic.
• Same white-label infrastructure.

Here's what white-labeling hides:

When Knock2 white-labeled RB2B's infrastructure, they inherited the defeat device.

Those GDPR and CCPA compliance badges on their site?

Based on Knock2's operations.

Not the surveillance code they're actually deploying.

The code runs two states:
1. Cloudfront CDN script if it detects normal users
2. AWS S3 fallback if it detects attorneys or compliance auditors

Two different behaviors. Same white-label deployment.

This is why "privacy-first alternative" means nothing without runtime verification.

When vendors say 'we're GDPR compliant,' they mean their  company operations—not you. Their tool can still cause YOUR violations.

Tomorrow, we're going to go over tools you need to rip out by the cables immediately. 


Most buyers hear: "You'll be GDPR compliant when using our tool." 

What vendors actually mean: "Our company operations follow GDPR." 

There's a critical difference. 

A vendor can be fully compliant internally while their product causes YOUR violations.

Example: 
→ Vendor has a compliant privacy policy ✓
→ Vendor responds to data subject requests ✓
→ Vendor maintains SOC 2 certification ✓

→ Vendor's tracking pixel violates consent requirements on YOUR site ✗

→ Vendor's tool creates undisclosed data flows from YOUR site ✗

→ Vendor's infrastructure blocks YOUR compliance audits ✗ 

The vendor is compliant. 
You are not.

They don't care if your vendor is certified. 
The liability lives with you. 

This gap between vendor certification and customer compliance costs companies millions in regulatory fines annually. 

Before you sign:  Ask vendors to distinguish between their internal compliance and what their tool enables for customers. 

Better yet: test the tool yourself before deployment, not after.

If a SaaS vendor's code detects automated testing tools and then alters its behavior when those tools are present, does that create a gap in SOC 2 certification?

Here's the pattern I'm seeing:

A GTM vendor's JavaScript includes regex bot detection for Selenium, Playwright, Puppeteer - standard security controls, arguably legitimate.

However, what if it then has a fallback regex that includes: monitor|checker|validator|analyzer ?

Would that be considered intent to evade detection? 

These aren't bot signatures.
These are 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀.

The tools privacy teams use.
The tools class action attorneys use.
The tools that verify compliance claims.

When detected, tracking behavior changes

Different code paths.
Different data collection.
Different behavior than what SOC 2 auditors test.

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗢𝗖 𝟮 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀:
Is there a standard methodology for testing vendors with detection logic?

How do you verify that the system being audited is the same system customers receive?

Because if the vendor shows one version to auditors and another to customers, what is the certification actually attesting to?

I keep hearing from clients that analysts aren't giving them the deep insight they're paying for.

Think about the incentive structure for a second.

An analyst at a major research firm is covering an entire market segment. 

They're tracking dozens (sometimes hundreds) of vendors. 

They're fielding inquiry calls. 

Writing research notes. 

Updating frameworks. 

Preparing for conferences.

They don't have time to go DEEP on your buyer dynamics.

So what happens instead?

The information flow runs in the OPPOSITE direction.

Let that sink in.

The analysts are taking insight FROM YOU.

They're using your briefings to understand the market. 

They're asking about your customer patterns. 

Your win/loss data. 

Your competitive intelligence.

They're extracting your hard-won knowledge and synthesizing it into their frameworks.

Then they package that synthesis and sell it...to other vendors trying to understand the market, and to buyers trying to evaluate vendors.

Think about what this actually means:

You're paying for access to buyer insight. 

That's the value proposition. 

That's what justifies the $50K+ investment.

But the analyst is extracting insight from YOU to package and sell to others.

You're not the customer.

You're the product.

Auditors test System A (no detection triggers)
Privacy teams test System B (detection triggers)
Customers receive System C (normal operations)

This vendor's competitors have faced multiple California Invasion of Privacy Act lawsuits.

This vendor has faced 𝘻𝘦𝘳𝘰.

Not because their practices are more compliant.

Because the detection logic blocks the exact tools plaintiff attorneys use for CIPA discovery.

The same tools SOC 2 auditors would use.

 This is why I asked about testing methodology.
When vendors deploy evasion logic, your certifications attest to a system state that audit tools cannot verify.

SOC 2 missed it. 
𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗼𝘂𝘁 caught it.
