• 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀.  Fintech and defense customers, plus multiple DoD contracts. If your tech works in those environments, it's no longer just a theory.
 
My takeaway, most founders chase novelty. Charles chases impact. That difference shows up fast.

The "Tyranny of the Urgent" is Killing Your Innovation 

I had a great conversation with Matt Ryan  Co-Founder & CTO of Kythera Labs , about the most challenging part of managing engineering teams today. He nailed it with one phrase: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝘆𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁.

It’s the constant battle between the deep, creative thought required to build the future and the "ping" of a customer question that needs an answer 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘸.

𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝘁:

1. 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝗻: Keep teams small to maintain effectiveness and ownership.

2. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘄: You have to protect your engineers' "zone." Context switching is a productivity killer.

3. 𝗥𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: If everything is a priority, nothing is. As leaders, if we don't control the priority, the individual engineer will solve the problem that's making the loudest noise.
