It is protection.
It keeps you from setting yourself on fire.

Fast forward 2.5 years.

Now we can sustain the load.
Now both sides benefit.

They don’t do safe — they do possible.

3. The Cult Recruiter
The one who convinces strangers your madness is worth joining.
Street-smart, fast-talking, allergic to fluff.
Understands people more than the product — and that’s why it sells.
Turns “What is this?” into “Take my money.”
Without them, your revolution stays a hobby.

You can call this person the Seller — the bridge between chaos and trust.

4. The Therapist on Payroll
Patience, empathy, inbox PTSD.
Replies at 11 p.m., apologizes for things they didn’t break.
Cares enough to turn chaos into calm.
You can call it success — I call it emotional damage with a KPI.

You can call this person Customer Success — the one who keeps humans happy.

5. The Quality Menace
Fights with everyone, especially devs.
Protects the customer like a bodyguard with trust issues.
Annoying, persistent, and always right.
Friction is progress — comfort kills it.

You can call this person Support or QA — the one who breaks things before customers do.

6. The Scaler
Understands how to scale the madness.
Knows marketing is paid physics — push, pull, react, repeat.
Has scars from what didn’t work and wisdom from what did.
Turns chaos into communication, communication into growth.
You can call this person the CMO — the one who turns signal into reach.

It’s not six people building a $9M company — it’s dozens.
But these six are the foundation.

When was the last time YOU were the junk lead on a sales call?


I was the junk lead today.

Here is how it went.

I get a DM.
“Hey, want to open up a new revenue stream for HeyReach by listing it on the AWS marketplace?”

My first thought?
What does a tool like this have to do with AWS marketplace?

But fine. Curiosity wins.
“Yes, I’d like to learn more.”

Mistake number one
“Here is a calendar link.”

Why?
My interest is not qualification.

Unless you built a hyper-relevant list and you know for a fact I am worth your time, a calendar link is just the sales version of throwing spaghetti at a wall and hoping the universe is kind.

But you didn't.

If someone says they want to learn more, send:
“We do XYZ. Is this relevant for you? If not, why not?”
That is nurturing.

Anyway… meeting time.
A gentleman joins.

Ten out of ten for pronouncing my name correctly.

Then comes his first question.
“Soooo.. do you have any idea how this works?”

“No. I’d like to learn more.”

And that is when it happened.

The look in his eyes changed.
Instantly.

Like the internal monologue just screamed:
“Ah, shit, here we go again. Another one. Fantastic. This is exactly how I wanted to spend my day. Teaching kindergarten.”

He did not say it.
He did not have to.
It was written on his face in 4K.

Now comes mistake number two
Not making it memorable.

Look, anyone doing demos will deal with junk leads.
All of us.

But that does not mean you get to mentally exit the room.

You are there.
Thirty minutes.
You cannot leave.
Your calendar betrayed you.
 
So at least make it worth something.
Be curious.
Ask questions.
Find angles.
Understand their world.
Show passion.
Show creativity.
Show that you can think beyond the slide deck.

People remember hustle.
People remember presence.
People remember the energy you bring when you could have chosen to be mediocre.

And who knows…
One day, I'll be the relevant lead you were hoping for
