I started looking for a marketing job during my MBA studies. Young and absolutely convinced that "marketing" meant a corner office at Nike or P&G, slowly ascending that corporate ladder.

So I applied to a few of these big companies. Got rejected from all of them. Not because "they just didn't see my genius". But because they understood perfectly: I was inexperienced, unproven, and, let's be honest, not remotely good enough yet.

But then my phone rang.

It was my university friend. He was working at this scrappy little marketing agency in my city.

"Dude, we need a Copywriter. Someone who can write in English. Maybe without making it sound like a Terms & Conditions page. I don’t have a lot of money to pay what you're definitely not worth right now, but this could change fast if we don't completely screw it up. You in?”

That's how it all started.

The world of content and inbound, growth marketing, GTM, building B2B/SaaS startups - all of it opened its doors to me. And like a 12-year-old me in an ice cream shop, I never wanted to leave that kingdom.

So instead of ascending the corporate ladder, I ascended the marketing ladder. Started as a Copywriter who didn't know what MRR or conversion rates were. Eventually rose through the ranks into leading marketing positions, where MRR and conversion rates are my best pals.

Nowadays, I just describe myself as a guy whose main job is turning marketing channels into absolute chaos (the good kind)… that basically do 3 things:

- Build awareness and an audience that comes to you
- Drive and retain users while accelerating revenue (in a profitable way)
- Build a brand people stick close to (not because they have to, but because they want to)

Currently growing HeyReach as their CMO and sharing all the stories here. Including the messy parts and the 3 AM moments where I question every decision that led me to debug a GTM workflow instead of becoming a doctor like my mom suggested.

Never let your HubSpot CRM be outdated again.

21 leadership lessons I learned in this beautiful disaster we call growth marketing.

(Spoiler: I'm still learning)

1. Push juniors in the pool early. But never let them drown. See what they’re made of.

2. Seniors don't need a tutor. Clear the obstacles, optimize their workspace, then get out of their way.

3. Acknowledge people more than you think you should.

4. Make feedback sharp, specific, and actionable. Vague feedback = expensive small talk.

5. Titles mean nothing when giving (or receiving) feedback. If you can dish it out, you better be able to take it - especially from your team.

6. Never give advice on something you haven't done yourself.

7. Every team member's mistake is YOUR mistake. Own it publicly, fix it privately.

8. Be the first to flag your own screw-ups to the entire team. Set the tone: fail loud, learn loudly, never repeat.

9. Support people through their first mistake. Repeated mistake is a work ethic choice that needs addressing.

10. Don't build a "family." Build a championship team. High standards, genuine respect, and having each other's backs when it counts.

11. Don't expect people to love the company. But if someone does, protect them like they're the last episode of a show you haven't watched yet.

12. Talk about people the same way whether they're in the room or not.

13. Glass-transparent communication about anything is everything.

14. Put important things in writing: KPIs, deliverables, career trajectories. Memory is negotiable; documentation isn't.

15. Keep an open-door policy, but call people out for lazy questions. "Have you tried figuring this out first?" builds problem-solvers.

16. Before working with anyone, ask them what they want. Find the win-win. Save everyone the awkward breakup.

17. Speak up when it matters in front of your bosses. Without exception.

18. Don't hesitate to cut people who don't fit. You're not here to be liked, even though it would be cool.

19. Reward winners publicly. Let everyone see what happens when the job gets done right.

20. Make consequences clear from day one. Everyone should know exactly what happens when lines get crossed.

21. Remember birthdays, life things, their important dates... The little things aren't little.

In my mind, leadership isn't about being perfect.

It's about being present, accountable, and willing to evolve.

(And occasionally apologizing for jokes that didn't land)
