Let's take a look at two ways people move from their current jobs.

1. You ride curve 1, ignore the A point and continue riding the curve until it declines and then you're either in one or all of these:

● Jaded
● Relying on yesterday's skill set
● Thrown out
● Overlooked for promotion 
● Having to look for something else when you're exhausted 

2. You ride curve 1, see an opportunity to reinvent yourself at the A point, then ride the next curve 2, and continue reinvention throughout the future curves ahead. That way, you:

● Build your skills 
● Reinvigorate your career
● Constantly learn and grow, and remain promotable
● Keep up your enthusiasm and energy 
● Be proactive in seeking your next opportunity 

TWO reflection questions:

■ WHAT position on the curve currently are you?

■ ARE you waiting for the inevitable, or are you ready to reinvent yourself?

OPPORTUNITY thinking.

My Dad had a favourite saying, "Make hay while the sun shines."

It means to seize favorable opportunities and take action when conditions are good.

Likewise, the most opportune time to fix a leaky roof is typically during the summer.

And, "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is now."

This is a Chinese proverb meaning that while ideal opportunities are in the past, it's never too late to start.

Let's encourage present action on long-term goals like saving, learning, or personal growth, rather than dwelling on missed chances. 

It's a powerful reminder to begin something important today, as planting now creates future benefits.
