I am a communications leader with 15+ years of experience advising executives, brands, and institutions on how to communicate clearly, credibly, and effectively in high-stakes moments.

At Comerica Bank, I lead social media and content strategy across small business, commercial, and retail banking, as well as corporate philanthropy, financial literacy, and community engagement. I oversee a high-volume content operation, approximately 100 pieces of content per month and the production of live streaming events on LinkedIn and Facebook that bring the brand’s voice directly to audiences in real time.

Previously, I served as Vice President of Corporate Communications for Comerica’s California market, where I led media relations, executive speechwriting, crisis communications, and served as a spokesperson. 

In that role, I worked closely with senior leaders to prepare for interviews, public appearances, and moments where clarity, message discipline, and credibility mattered most.

Earlier in my career, I was a television reporter and anchor. That newsroom experience shaped how I approach executive communication today: with an understanding of how journalists think, what audiences listen for, and how quickly a message can succeed or fail under pressure.

Alongside my corporate role, I advise founders and senior leaders on executive media performance, visibility, and on-camera presence through my SmartPresence advisory practice. The focus is practical and risk-aware: helping leaders show up prepared, composed, and aligned with their organization’s goals when the stakes are high. 

This work blends traditional media preparation with modern tools, including AI-assisted video analysis, to accelerate insight and improvement.

I'm a highly curious and trusted journalist who's earned 7 Emmy awards for tackling complex issues and translating them into compelling, relatable narratives for general audiences. As a frequent public speaker, I've been featured in major media outlets such as the New York Times and CNN in addition to speaking engagements at numerous corporations, including TPG, Salesforce, and Google. 

Following stints as an anchor and reporter at ABC and CBS stations as well as NPR, I helped launch "KQED Newsroom," an in-depth current affairs program on one of the nation's most acclaimed public media stations. As founding anchor of the Emmy award-winning program, I built and maintained trusted relationships with policymakers, thought leaders, journalists and industry experts who regularly appeared on the show.

I was co-founder and CEO of the Global Mentor Network, a public benefit company. We helped create more equitable leadership for an unequal world by providing digital mentorship at scale and democratizing leadership development through broad online access to high caliber executives.

I started my journey in America as a refugee from Vietnam and went on to become the nation's first Vietnamese American television news broadcaster in a Top 10 US market. I've covered everything from presidential elections to economic crises to technological transformations. Among the distinctions I've been honored to receive are 7 Emmys, a prestigious Edward R. Murrow award, and being named by the Bay Area News Group as one of Northern California's "Most Inspiring Women." I was humbled to receive from the California State Legislature an Excellence in Journalism award, with special commendations for an "exemplary record of professional and civic achievement."

Currently, I'm a Limited Partner at How Women Invest and serve on the board of The RealReal Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of The RealReal public company. I've also been an Advisor at DocuSign and was a longtime board member at the nonprofit Asian Pacific Fund. 

I've been recognized with a Community Leadership Award from the Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation. The group's previous honorees include legendary architect I.M. Pei, former U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta and Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang. Fun fact - my immigration story is a featured audio-visual exhibit at the Angel Island Immigration Museum in the San Francisco Bay Area.
