yesterday a client praised our content
feels good right?

but

this is the same client we lost in 2023 because our content was trash.
"arnav, this is not what we signed up for." 
- that's what they said when they left.

they were right. 
we were sending millions of emails with content that felt soulless.

they left. we rebuilt everything.
re-engaged them in late 2025.
and now this.

losing them was the best thing that happened to us.
because comfort kills quality.

if they had stayed and tolerated mediocre work
we would've never fixed what was broken.

now content brings us referrals
all because our team realised it's real / not personal

everyone wants to hire people who've "done this before."
i used to think the same way.

when we started scaling the agency, i wanted people who knew email marketing inside out. 
people with 5+ years. people who'd worked at the "top" agencies.

but i got
people who told me what couldn't be done.

"you can't get those open rates." 
"that's not how deliverability works." 
"the industry doesn't do it this way."

meanwhile, we were sending 10s of million emails a week doing exactly what they said was impossible.

the playbook we built for automated subscriber growth? 
it breaks half the "best practices" i was taught.
and it works.

here's what i've learned:
experience teaches you the rules. 

but sometimes the rules are the problem.
the junior who asks "why don't we just send it this way?"  
just hasn't been trained out of common sense yet.

they don't know that the "right" way is often 
just "what everyone does because that's what everyone else does."

i'm not saying experience is useless. 
but i've stopped treating it like a guarantee.

some of our best ideas came from people who didn't know what they weren't supposed to try.
they just tried it anyway.

it's more fun creating playbooks than replicating them
at least for us. 

even though it's painful af to get there
