I’m Tay.

I grew up in San Francisco and Hawaii (firmly on team El Farolito and team Spam), with a fair amount of time spent in Southeast Asia, and now I’m based in sometimes sunny Montreal (bagels are also better then NYC).

My work background’s also a bit varied. I spent five years making wine in Napa before deep diving into startups and tech. Bootstrapped our last company and successfully exited in late 2022. That journey led me to help co-found Palisade, an email security solution built to help navigate the recent uptick in cyber security threats.

Outside of work, I like experimenting in the kitchen and crushing good food.

The hustle never stops. 

Over the weekend, Kevin O'Leary shared a list of the Top 20 AI data centre construction projects worldwide and he said something every serious builder already knows:

“Countries that have energy security will win the AI race.”

He’s right.

Everyone is talking about GPUs, chip supply, Blackwell, wafer-scale compute... but the real bottleneck isn’t hardware.

It’s power.
It’s land.
It’s grid capacity.
It’s the teams who can actually execute at scale.

And that’s where things get interesting for Canada.

While Europe, the UAE, and the US are aggressively pushing 5–40 GW development plans, Canada is sitting on a rare advantage: stable power, renewable-rich regions, vast land, and significantly less political volatility around energy policy.

The real challenge?
Most of that power is locked behind long queues, outdated interconnection processes, and slow-moving planning cycles.

That’s why the Milton project matters.

Milton isn’t “another data centre.”
It’s one of the few Canadian sites being engineered with realistic access to future-proof power, tied directly to partners who understand both sides of the equation generation and high-density AI loads.

It’s being designed with the next decade in mind:

• ESG-aligned grid integration

Everyone talks about building in AI but almost no one is looking at the constraint that defines who actually wins: Controllable Megawatts.

The blind spot in this conversation is that power generation is no longer just an input, it’s the strategic leverage point for the entire AI industrial stack. 

Compute scales in months and transmission and generation scale in years. That gap is where the real returns accrue.

My thesis: whoever controls permitted land tied to real power capacity controls the velocity of AI deployment and capital is already rotating toward that reality. The rest of the market will catch up later, as usual.
