I wish I knew this when I started my marketing career:

The entry point for marketing is easy.

You’re somewhat into socials. Know something about SEO. A couple of internships. Congrats! You get your first job.

What’s not easy?

Building a thoughtful career after. You have so many options. There’s no step-by-step roadmap. No definite path.

So I asked my mentor what actually matters in building a marketing career. 

Here are some pointers:

→ Master one primary skill/channel. Content. Ads. Events. Be good at one thing first.

→ Don’t skip the basics. Be it any channel, you’ll always sell to people. Learn humans.

→ It’s all about business. You market to grow the business. So understand how they’re built.

→ Be it business or life, you need to stand out. Learn how you can be different. Not better.

→ Develop taste. Observe and reverse engineer great ads, campaigns and build your swipe file.

To all the startup founders:

While AI tools give you leverage. It can’t be your advantage.

Think of it, every company, be it small or big, more or less have access to the same exact AI tools.

It’s clearly not about the tools.

It’s about speed. Agility. How fast can you put out v1 to iterate on top of it?

That’s where the real advantage is.

Small teams can:
→ Ship ideas fast
→ Test without overthinking
→ Iterate based on real feedback

All before the big guys schedule their third meeting and wait for approvals.

And honestly, it has always been this way. Small teams always had speed as their superpower. AI just multiplies it.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t think AI wrapper startups are bad.

Everything is a wrapper. There’s nothing wrong with being one. Think of it, a microwave is an electricity wrapper, but with a real utility. As long as your AI wrapper has real utility. You’ll be fine. 

So, wrapping isn’t the problem. Lack of real utility + zero moat is.

For example:
I recently came across a startup that connects all your ad accounts, analyzes performance, and gives instant insights & recommendations.

→ Useful? Yes.
→ Moat? Probably not.

Because platforms like Meta or Google have insane ad data + distribution. If they release a chat interface tomorrow, they’ll win by default. That’s the real danger.

So your AI wrapper needs more than a UI layer. 

It needs:
Distribution advantage, proprietary data, network effects, workflow lock-in, niche depth. Something big tech can’t copy overnight.

Bottomline:

If your startup is just a UI on top of OpenAI and nothing else, and your advantage disappears the moment OpenAI adds the feature natively, you’re building on quicksand.

Please don’t be a CHECKLIST marketer!!!

At this point, it’s not about outputs anymore. It’s about outcomes. Just completing tasks, for the sake of it might not be relevant anymore. 

Because there was a time when design, copywriting, and editing required great technical skill.

Today, AI tools have democratised creation. Anyone can produce decent work. And “decent” is everywhere. That means deliverables alone won’t help you cut through the noise.

You need to:

→ Bring original thinking
→ Come up with creative ideas
→ Find ways to stand out of the crowd
→ Look for unconventional growth channels

We always needed this. But now, it matters more than ever.

I've read many books. But this one changed how I work.
(you've probably not heard of it)

→ Rework by Jason Fried

It's not your typical book. No fluff. Just actionable insights that you can apply in your work, like right away. 

Here are 4 things that stood out for me:

Embrace constraints: Less is more. Limited resources force you to think creatively. Great breakthroughs happen when you are constrained.   

Go to sleep: As simple as it sounds. It works. Lack of sleep leads to stubbornness. You'll be less creative the next day. Not a fair trade-off.

Quick wins: Momentum fuels motivation. Just finish off a task and then move on to the next one. Complete a task, then move on to the next one.

Good enough is fine: Whenever you face problems, avoid ambitious solutions. Instead, look for solutions that get you the most out of doing the least.

That's not all. You'll find so many good insights in the book. I always have it on my work table. Small book, but every time I read, I get a different perspective on work.

Lazy outbound doesn't work anymore.
↪︎ Just using templates. Not putting in work.

Lazy SEO doesn't work anymore.
↪︎ AI slop with no real value.

Lazy Socials doesn't work anymore.
↪︎ Just talking about product. Always 

That's it. That's the post.

2025 was different for me. 

If I had to sum up 2025 in one word, it'd be possibility. 

It was that year of my life when I: 

→ Dreamt big. 
→ Got big opportunities. 
→ Pushed myself super hard.

And boy, it was a hell of a ride. One moment I'd be on top of the world. The next moment, I'd cry about everything.

But I've come to the realisation that: 

→ It's tough. 
→ It's meant to be tough
→ It's all part of the process

While 2025 showed me what's possible. 
It also showed me that I need to level up.

Disciplinewise
Relationshipwise

Only then could I turn possibility(2025) → reality (2026).
