PhD project: Investigations of B cell phenotype and metabolic function in patients with Myalgic  encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome

At the UCL Rheumatology department we are interested in the development and maturation of B cells in Rheumatoid diseases like Rheumatoid Artitis (RA) and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus  (SLE). This promising research is performed prior to possible B cell depletion therapies. This group was the first in their field who successfully treated RA patiënts with the B cell depletion antibody called Rituximab. 
At the moment I am working on a project were we are investigating the influence of  B cells and B cell factors on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) patiënts. It is suggested that B cell dysregulation in some of these patients might contribute to disease severity.
