I've been a big fan of OuterSignal since they first launched.

As a data nerd running what is essentially a data company, I have a particular soft spot for personalization done well.

It's simple, but powerful: understand the specific personas in your customer base, and market to them with relevant creative and messaging. 

One of my favorite brands, Mizzen+Main, decided to put this to the test with direct mail.

They built a segment of their executive-level customers. 

We crafted specific creative and copy for this audience. (Check it out in the pic.) 

The result?

Their highest-performing direct mail campaign. EVER.

+ $50 higher AOV than typical campaigns.

I remember first meeting Natalie Shaddick, VP of Ecom, and thinking how sharp she was. So no surprise she was an early adopter of this use case:

They're using direct mail to sell extended warranties.

Here's how it works:
20 days post-delivery, they mailed customers a simple offer: upgrade to a 5-year extended warranty at a discount.

No ads. No email fatigue. Just a well-timed postcard promising peace of mind. 

The result? 20x+ ROAS. 🤯 

Think about what this means:
You've already acquired the customer. You've already paid the CAC. The warranty is high margin. And unlike an email that gets buried, this lands on their counter right when they're thinking about their new purchase.

Peak Saunas isn't stopping there. 🧖  They're also running:
- SiteMatch retargeting to anonymous visitors and MailMatch to email subscribers who haven't converted with insane ROAS because the AOV is so high and the consideration cycle so long.
- Referral postcards 60 days post-purchase -- also getting incredible ROAS and a great source of new customers.

But the extended warranty play is the one I keep coming back to.

Tactical takeaway:
Find one post-purchase moment where anxiety > excitement (delivery, install, first use).

Mail one thing: protection, certainty, reassurance.

Price it so it feels like a no-brainer.
