3 years ago, I was a clueless 19-year-old. 

Yesterday, I celebrated 2 years of working at noticed. 

And while I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it… the enjoyment isn’t what stands out the most to me. 

What stands out is how much I’ve grown over the last 3 years. 

My confidence has doubled. 
I’ve worked with some great business minds. 
I’ve taken a few steps closer to creating my dream life. 

And it’s all happened in the blink of an eye. 

All because 3 years ago I decided to take my life & my personal brand seriously. 

It just goes to show how quickly you can grow & achieve when you set a goal and consistently chip away at it. 

I’m beyond grateful to have worked with so many great people during my time at noticed. 

And I couldn’t be more excited to keep the momentum going!

For the last 2 years, I’ve become quite obsessed with fly fishing. 

And it’s taught me the power of moving slowly but with intention. 

Because when you’re fly fishing, you don’t just chuck on a lure and hope for the best: 

When I turn up at the river, I’m forced to: 

1️⃣ Assess the water conditions. 

Is the water murky or clear? Is it flowing fast or slow? 

Murky and fast = fish will be hard to scare. 
Clear and slow = fish will see me coming from a mile away. 

2️⃣ Assess the behaviour of the trout. 

Are they feeding on the surface on flies? Or are they feeding below the surface on aquatic insects & fish? 

This will tell me if I need to use a dry fly on my line or a sub-surface streamer/nymph. 

3️⃣ Assess the ecosystem. 

What flies are in the air? Are there lots of small fish in the water? What insects are dominating this ecosystem at this time of year? 

Because if you tie on a fly that doesn’t match what’s in that ecosystem, you won’t catch anything. 

Sometimes I’ll spend up to 20/30 minutes just watching the river before I get in and start fishing. 

Because fly fishing isn’t about turning up and throwing in a bright orange lure and wading around the river like you own the place. 

It shows you that taking the time to thoroughly assess the best approach before taking any action… will outperform rushing in and hoping for the best every single time. 

It’s a skill that I’ve taken into so many areas of my life. 

Not to mention, fly fishing will take you to the best places nature has to offer!

I rarely send DMs. 
I don’t post 5x a week. 
I don’t go viral very often. 
I don't do ANY work during the weekend. 
I don't obsess over posts performing well. 
I don't scroll LinkedIn outside of work hours. 
I don't have a set-in-stone posting schedule. 

Yet… 

2,000+ people have clicked the "follow" button on my profile. 
I got approached for my dream job (cheers Niall). 
I wake up and I'm happy to go to work daily. 
I’m building a personal brand that I love. 
I’m slowly creating my dream life. 

There's a lot of noise on here, from a lot of gurus. 

People shouting to do things one way. 
People shouting even louder to do the opposite. 

But here’s one thing that those “experts” will never tell you about building your career & life… 

→ There's more than one way to make it work. 

Figure out what you want from life. Find your own way forward. 

Because if you just copy others, you’ll be living a life that isn’t yours. 

And that sounds like an absolute nightmare to me.

“But I’ve already posted about this before” 

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that’s the whole point of LinkedIn. 

So many people fall into this trap with their personal brands. 

They know what they have to offer. 
They know what values they stand for. 
They know how they want to convey themselves. 

But after a couple of months, they stop posting because they are worried about repeating themselves. 

But the truth is, that repetition is exactly what’s going to get you clients. 

Because when your audience understands: 

What service you offer. 
What problem your service solves for them. 
And what sort of person they’ll be working with if they sign up… 

That’s when they’ll finally commit to working with you. 

And you won’t achieve that if you shy away from repeating yourself. 

So next time that feeling creeps up on you when writing a post… 
↳ Ignore it and hit post anyway. 

Because the chances are, everyone who sees that post didn’t see your post from 3 weeks ago on the same topic.

“What if I post on LinkedIn and get no likes?” 

Is that REALLY the reason you're posting? 

Or do you want: 

→ To be seen as an authority by potential clients. 
→ To get invited onto podcasts and stage talks. 
→ And ultimately generate more leads. 

I’m going to make a bold assumption that you picked option number 2. 

The reality is, nobody is going to overlook your expertise because your post didn't get "100 likes". 

They care about what you write. Who you are as a person. And what you can offer them. 

Everything else is just noise, slowing you down from attracting the right people. 

When you can shut out that noise, you’ll start building an audience that actually needs what you have to offer.

Scrolled LinkedIn for an hour every day after work this week. 

My conclusion? Humanity is doomed.

Most people leave education and give up on their dreams. 

They trade everything they have for a steady career that pays the bills. 

They trade a dream of a house in the countryside… 
↳ For a studio apartment in the city. 

They trade their dreams of starting a family… 
↳ For 10 more years of “putting their career first”. 

They trade finding a job that they genuinely enjoy… 
↳ For a job that comes with a nice retirement package. 

They trade their old hobbies… 
↳ For padel, so they can fit in with the crowd (tennis is king 🤣) 

And when I left university, I saw the reality of the corporate world and knew I had two options: 

→ Become the person that the corporate world wanted me to be. 
→ Or find a way of building my dream life while still furthering my career. 

Ultimately, I decided that what the corporate world had to offer didn’t outweigh the vision I had for myself. 

So I started my personal brand on LinkedIn. 

Which has allowed me to further my career, without sacrificing any of my personal dreams and ambitions. 

And it’s why I’m such a big advocate of LinkedIn and personal branding. 

Because it’s allowed me to stay true to my values and dreams, without having to sacrifice career progression.
