Regulatory Affairs and AI: Learning to use AI well does not make you less of a regulatory expert. 
It reveals how much you actually know.

When I started working seriously with large language models on regulatory tasks, I expected the system to flatten expertise. i.e. to make the knowledge of a senior expert feel interchangeable with that of a second-year associate who learned to prompt well.

But it did not happen.

The quality of what an AI knowledge system produces for a regulatory task is determined by the quality of the question you ask it. And the quality of your question is determined by the depth of your domain knowledge. You cannot ask a good question about benefit-risk framing if you do not understand what an assessor is trying to resolve. You cannot build a useful RAG system on regulatory documents if you do not know which documents matter and why.

Without these ingredients you get answers that sound technically plausible but are strategically useless. The system does not know the difference. You have to.

This is what rebuilding my entire regulatory approach with AI has actually required: not learning the tools first, but designing the knowledge architecture that makes them trustworthy.

The governance is the work.
